My new T61 has problems with standby and after unintalling & reinstalling the power management driver it now has serious "internal power error". Tech support is sending me a box to ship the machine for repair. Takes maybe more than a weekCould some computer savvy folks tell me how to save the bookmarks in Firefox, in case (highly highly likely!) the repair will wipe all my files and softwares I installed? Thanks in advance!

bookmarks>organize bookmarks>file>export...save the file to an external drive.

Thanks! Just did it!
Another thing:
Is there a way to "copy" (but not hand-copying) what softwares I have installed, so that I'll know what to reinstall when I get the laptop back? E.g. is there a way to save screen or print the list in the "Add/Remove Programs"? -
Just open up the Add/Remove Programs list, hit "Print Screen", then open up Paint or something and paste the image into it. Then you can save it or print it out if you like.

I don't have Paint--how can I get it? Thanks
P.S. When I hit the PrtSc key, nothing happens...? -
Microsoft Paint? It comes with Windows, so you should have it....
And when you press print screen it copies an image of your screen to your clipboard, so that you can paste it into a program such as Paint. -
I found it in system32. Thank you so much!

You could also try Belarc Adivsior. It is a program that gives you a detailed profile of installed software and hardware and other stuff.

Also i recommend backing up your entire firefox profile(it contains personal settings, such as bookmarks, passwords and extensions etc)

paint is here:

Don't send the HDD.
-
Many thanks to all for the great tips
But the tech rep told me to send the HDD, just don't send the battery and adapter.
-
Agree, unless you think it is a problem with your SW load, I would not send your HDD in -- unless you don't feel comfortable removing it. I usually remove all accessories, etc before sending the system in (been using Thinkpads for 12 years and have done EZServe about 4 times).

Even if I delete all my files? I know the data is still in there...Maybe I'll call them again to see if HDD is necessary for the repair.
According to the tech rep, very likely the repair is simply to reimage or reinstall everything so it's back to the factory status. If so then they'll need the hard drive, don't they? -
If that's the fix, you can do that yourself with the recovery partition -- just burn the CD's/DVD's and go back to factory defaults.
