I need a new laptop and was thinking about getting an x230 to replace my x201, but I need a dock. I looked at at the Series 3 Ultrabase and I am really struggling with the added cost. It's bad enough that they obsoleted the dock that I use with my x201, but the new dock does not come with an optical drive or a power supply -- for a whopping $200! That is crazy. A power supply is a must-have for a deskbound dock and for that matter so is an optical drive. If I add those items I am up to $400 for the dock.
I have been a ThinkPad user for a long time...since the Butterfly days. This may be the end of the road for me though. It seems clear that they are holding business users hostage. This may be what pushes me to Apple. Yes, I know they are not cheap either, but at this point I really just want to get away from Lenovo.

You want to switch to a brand that does not offer Docks because the Lenovo Dock is too expensive? Right...
Do you really need the Ultrabase? I don't see why an optical drive in a dock is a must nowadays...just connect it via USB. I've got two Mini Docks super cheap from ebay (35 Pounds and 50 Pounds) + 10 Pounds for PSU. I don't think that's particularly expensive. -
did the X200 ultrabase came with power adapter and optical drive? when i got mine X200 with ultrabase, they were a separate parts too that you had to order separately. You can always use the X201 power adapter and ultrabay drive with the Ultrabase 3.
