I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but haven't been able to pin it down. I've set all the video settings to low/off, but that didn't fix anything. Disabling core parking helped, but it didn't stop it. Turning off Smart Power Saving for the CPU and HDD helped, but didn't fix it. I'm out of ideas.

    Thanks

    What drivers are you using?

Are you sure that the dedicated GPU is being utilized by the game?

I have an overclocked GT 550M and it runs BF3 @ 1366X768 30 - 40 fps. Textures ultra AA X4 and everything else medium. Your 555m should be no problem with medium to high settings.

I updated to the latest official nvidia drivers as well as chasing down chipset and audio drivers.

I was playing around with GPU-Z to monitor GPU load. It's up around 90-99% and randomly drops to 5-10%. I also noticed tonight that sound is ahead of video in BF3 and sound never stutters.

For which GPU is being used, I messed with driver settings and it seems like I can get the integrated GPU to render the game at about 10 fps, or I can stutter. Not sure which is better.

If the GPU usage randomly drops, it could be because your CPU is overheating and throttling. Could you post the maximum temps you see on both CPU and GPU while playing BF3, specifically right after you have experienced stuttering.

Setting everything in the drivers to use the dedicated gpu, including physx, seems to have mostly aleviated the problem. I still have some stuttering immediately after loading, but that goes away fairly quickly.

I'll look at temps when I get home.

    EDIT: Here are my temps

    CPU: Package - 86C
    Cores - 81 to 84C

    GPU: 72C

Whatever magic I had yesterday is gone now. It's back to stuttering hard and I didn't change anything.

Are you sure it's on high performance? As opposed to balanced.

I figured it out. By using throttle stop, I was able to turn off turbo mode for the CPU and this completely fixed my problem. The CPU runs at about 80C now. I'd like a better solution, but this works for now.

EDIT: Problem solved by latest beta nvidia driver 301.something.
