I just ordered a T61 from Lenovo Canada website. In the e-mail I received after paying it was written I should expect the laptop in 3-4 weeks... is it really that long?

I didn't customize anything, I only bought a pre-built laptop in the flyer.

Thats very odd, i thought they had new shipments of this model.
Did you upgrade the free memory? I believe the 3-4 weeks is just a default estimation.

    Yes.

    I ordered a T61p (6460-67U) on July 27 and received it on August 23.

I believe this is simply the build and ship cycle that is required.

FYI, I ordered a ThinkPad T61 15 Widescreen on January 3rd/08. Shipping was estimated at 2-3 weeks, and as I added a faster processor, DVD, etc, it changed to 3-4 weeks. I completed the order and after the initial order confirmation heard nothing a month. On Feb 4th I phoned, surprise, it's been delayed. I put in a complaint and received $100 off of the order as compensation. On Feb 15 I received a notice that the unit had been shipped. Checked Status on Feb 20 and told it should be in my hands by the 29th, as it has to clear customs etc etc etc.

    Jan 3 - Feb 29

On Feb 29 if the price has dropped on ANY of the components I'll be demanding a refund of the difference.

    Won't be doing that again!

That's awful!!! Wonder what Lenovo Canada's problem is?
You see peeps from the US ordering their thinkpads and getting them within a week, whereas Canadians wait two months for the same damn thing. That's really screwed up.

Um, people, shipping estimate is just that, an estimate.

How fast a laptop ships depends on availability. If it's already built and good to go then you'll receive it quickly. If it needs to be custom assembled then .. it takes longer. If you really can't wait, try getting a laptop from a dealer or eBay.

Even if you order 2 laptops from the US, one could take a week or could take a month.
