I ordered a Thinkpad T60 on February 6th in the evening and is "In process" right now according to the Lenovo Order Status page. Estimated ship date is March 2nd. I've been poking around some sites and have read about some major shipping problems that Lenovo has encountered lately. What should I be expecting in terms of ship date and delays, and would I be better off to cancel this order and order from a different vendor?

Well I will let you know if and when I get mine. I ordered a T60 WS with the higher resolution display on Jan 31st. I am also curious, as to this, it has only been 1 week and 3 days and I'm already impatient. My date is 26th in theory. We shall see. At present WS high res screens still make the delay time change from 1-2 to 2-3 so I assume that means the parts are in shorter supply. But I don't really know.

Ah, yes, I did order the WSXGA+ screen. I hope it doesn't take too long; like you, I'm already stoked to get it! :)

if you added a lot of options to your system you could be out of luck. If you ordered as close to stock as possible shouldnt be too long.

from how I read the model codes on the lenovo website and the parts manifest, I think its pretty much just the Screen that bins your model (any maybe WAN) the first item is blah blah model no CPU, I guess there are a few MoBo flavors too integrated graphics and discrete, beyond that its pretty much take it off the shelf connect it up after all, all the other parts but those are essentially user replaceable.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I ordered a T60 WS from Lenovo on 01/20 and it was at my door on 01/24. My estimated ship date was something like 02/08, so I was surprised it got here so fast.

I'm already 2x over that, was it custom? Seems like it couldn't be. It has to come from China.

I just ordered a CTO today, T7200, 2 GB 667, DVD Burner, X1400, WSXGA+ (1680x1050), DVD Burner, etc etc. Said completion date would be 3/2. Hopefully I'll get it before then.

EDIT: T60 Widescreen, by the way

You and I have the same completion date, so maybe ours could ship together? Sounds like we ordered the same system, except I chose 1.5 GB RAM instead of 2.

Chordstrummer, did you order ground shipping or some kind of expedited shipping? It does seem like 4 days is too short for the lappy to come from China, but then again I don't know much about shipping.

Well I'm not Chordstrummer, but nothing comes by ground from China. It might be ground once in US or where ever though. I have heard of things being held up in customs even, makes me very wary. Maybe he meant he ordered it last year, and it only took 369 days

BTW the lower bound on shipping from China would be 3 days more or less. You'd have one day for them to process your order, box it and charge the card, it could catch a plane the next day. (The flight takes half a day alone) It would take another day to go through customs and be transfered to the ground unit. So on the afternoon of the 3rd day it is possible. But it more or less assumes no building time. The only thing I can think of for the 5 day is that if you happen to order a CTO system that matches something that isn't CTO in a warehouse then they are smart enough to send you that..

So that means that on the order form on Lenovo's website, the option to upgrade shipping only affects the shipping once it gets into the states? I too have read about customs delaying orders, as well as seeing the thread on here "Lenovo Losing Credibility on Shipping Dates," a few threads down from this one.

No it could affect more. I mean some shipping methods could just use extra space on planes, but a boat would take a month at least in most cases.

My z61m was reportedly built 2/2, and the tracking indicated it was shipped from Kowloon Bay HK on 2/6 (their time), and it got out of there within about 36 hours, was shipped to Louisville and I received it in upstate New York on 2/9.

Of course, that did not include the 61 day wait for the build!

I did not upgrade shipping at all. It was UPS Ground once it hit the U.S. Bear in mind, I'm on the west coast so that might've helped. Believe me, I was shocked that it got to me so fast. Not only was it like five days, I ordered on a Saturday and it was here on a Wednesday!

Just got real lucky, I suppose.

I ordered mine on 1/30/07, and the estimated ship date is 2/23/07. Haven't heard anything new as of today (1/11/07), and like I said in a different post, the Chinese New Year is coming up on the 18th. I sure hope it gets built and shipped this week so that I can avoid the delays caused by the festivities. According to my Lenovo rep, the Chinese basically take off an entire week from the 19th to the 23rd.

    Mine is a CTO 14.1" T60: T7200, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB X1400, 120 GB HD, 8x DL DVD burner, Intel 3945, 6-cell battery.

Chaosrl, I emailed Lenovo and got this reply:

We have received an update from our Supply focal regarding your Lenovo order XXXXXX, they have advised the building
of your system will start February 21, 2007 due to LCD issues and your system will ship February 24, 2007.

Does anyone know what is Lenovo's dead pixel policy? I dont want to be waiting this long only to get a dead/malfunctioning pixel and then be stuck with it if they dont support it ?

I chose regular UPS Ground shipping, if that makes any difference

I had a quite pleasent experience with Lenovo Canada. I ordered T60WS, WSXGA+, C2D 7200, 2Gig Ram, on February 1st and on the 9th was at my door (sent from Ontario to Alberta on the 5th, by UPS ). I also ordered one extra gig of ram, but I installed it myself. I guess if I had it installed by them would have delayed the ordered, not to mention cost extra 50 bucks.

So far quite happy. My concern was the screen, but I found it quite good. I got the LG which, from what I heard, is better than the one made by Samsung. The fonts are quite small but after changing the DPI and enableing ClearType fonts in XP everything looks perfect. The alps keboard is also very enjoyable.

I intend to make it dual boot and install a Linux distro on it (probably Ubuntu). If you know of possible issues I might encounter during the process, a link will be highly appreciated.

acaurora, thanks for the info, that's great news. (hopefully, it'll be the same for me, maybe i'll try emailing them too). your computer is going to start its build on my birthday! :)

can anyone confirm the chinese new years "shutdown"? i've never been there during the new year due to school, but it is a big deal for my family here in the states, though not a whole weeks worth of partying (too bad.)

I actually just had my birthday on the 9th. ;)

I just called them, and they said that the date they quoted me for the 24th may end up being the 26 cuz its on a weekend??? As for when i asked why does the order status page say 3/8 still they said 'its an erroneous error'....

I just want my **** laptop -.-;;... Costco right now has a DV6000T essentially the same as my lenovo but with a 160GB 5400 RPM and a 1280x800 screen and a 128MB 7400 instead. Yes I know that's a LOT of difference, but its $1349. (Item # 164735)

Granted, I still wouldn't get that ^ because I have a 21" monitor and I am so used to 1680x1050. I had an old HP DV5035nr (which isn't really that old...) with 1280x800... drove me nuts. I sold it for $800, hehe. Good luck to all of those that are waiting, will report back when I get mine!

Ordered my t60 on 2/9 with the est. ship date on 2/23. I was hoping it would be like my experience from Dell where they ship faster than estimated (I suspect Dell over-estimates so you feel better when they ship fast) but it looks like Lenovo doesn't do that. So much for immediate gratification.

ordered x60 tablet on 12/13/06 and just got an email saying that if I didnt click on a link within 5 days that they would automatically cancel my order.

What kind of company is this?

I ordered my T60 on 1/30/07, and it just shipped on 2/16/07, so you're probably looking at about 2 to 2.5 weeks for Lenovo to build it and ship it.

I am still waiting just like you chaosrl for the T60 WS, it has not yet shipped, or rather, I at least do not see any updated shipping information from the login site. I believe the last time I heard from Lenovo it should start building tomorrow and then ship by either Friday or Monday.

One interesting thing to note: When I sent the email to Lenovo asking about my laptop, it got sent to Lenovo *CANADA*. Makes me wonder why exactly is it taking nearly a month for all the parts to come in. If it is coming from Canada then it probably will not take that long to get here, right ?

It's coming from China. They all come from China, because that's where the factory is. Lenovo apparently handles North American support in Canada, but the factory is definitely located in China.

Update on mine: the delivery date has been moved back once again to the 22nd. If yours was shipped on the 17th, yours is probably still stuck in customs as well.

I mean, I've heard of 1-2 day delays, but we'll be going on 4 days in customs now.
