I'm ordering x61s, haven't submitted order yet. It says estimated shipping is Jan. 5. I don't want it to arrive during 1/10-1/16 since I will be away. What's the best way for me to do? Is it likely to ship earlier or later than the estimated date? Or should I, after placing the order, ask Lenovo to ship it either earlier or later?![]()

You can ask them about that. Or ask your delivery service to hold the package until you can pick it up.

Thanks. I placed the order and hope it comes before the estimated time!

My 2 Thinkpads were shipped by UPS and both arrived when I was not around. They didn't leave the packages but took them back to their warehouse for delivery the next day. I called UPS and they told me that Lenovo is very strict and does not allow them to leave the package without a signature, even with a "release from liability" form signed and given to them. You must sign for the package. So if your packages are delivered by UPS they won't leave them. They should just come down and find nobody is there and take the package back with them and leave a post it note with their attempt of deliver. You can then call them up and arrange to pick up your package from their warehouse yourself in your own time. Once you do this they will put your package aside and will not load it on the truck the next day. Thats what I did and it worked perfectly.

Thanks. I think UPS only makes 3 delivery attempts, and I can't make request to hold the package before the 1st attempt. So if the 1st delivery attempt is made when I'm away (out of the country), then they'll make 2 more attempts the next 2 days when I'm still away. Then they'll presumably return the package to Lenovo. I don't know if Lenovo will charge me for re-shipping it.

I didn't know you were leaving the country. You are correct UPS make a few delivery attempt(don't know the exact amount, maybe 3 like you say), then they keep the package with them for a while in the warehouse and then if it is not picked up then they ship it back(not sure if they charge or how much).
If you knew that you wouldn't be around then I think you shouldn't have ordered the machine. You would have been better off making a quote(good for 30 days), which locks in the price, and then submit the quote when you came back. But now I think you will need to contact Lenovo or UPS(assuming this is the delivery company, you better double check) and find out what your options are in this situation. I don't know what else to say... -
It depends how long you will be gone. UPS will hold it for 5 business days I believe after you ask them. So if you will be back you could ask them after the first attempt (assuming you get your tracking number on line) to hold it. Although they might want the number on the slip they put on your door...

Thanks guys. I will post here if I receive it sooner than the estimated time (which will be a + for Lenovo's customer relations
).

Can we cancel an order as long as it is not shipped yet?
-
Yes, but you might be randomly disappointed that it shipped and the CS agent didn't know/tell you at the time of cancellation because it takes a couple days. Just be prepared for that because I have seen it happen repeatedly :\.

You can but it might not work. If you are thinking about it I would do it as soon as possible. Sometimes the communication between the sales dept and the warehouse is not good and they don't get your cancellation in time before they ship the machine.
Shipping time for x61s?? How to avoid delivery during absence?
