I had an HP Envy 17 and there were a bunch of things I didn't like about it, including a bad touchpad, overheating, keyboard layout, etc. The much-hyped audio system wasn't that great either. Took it back for a refund.
In years past IBM's were considered a top-tier laptop but I don't know if Lenovo has continued that. Was it just a name change or more than that?
I have to have a 17" screen which I think makes the G770 my only choice. Otherwise I would look for a Toshiba. But I can get a G770 for a great price right now.
I'm not a gamer, this is to be a primary computer, "desktop" when I'm home and travel for business.
I can't seem to find a clear spec on the usb ports - some say 4 2.0's and others say 3 2.0's and 1 3.0. I would like to have a 3.0.
I'm not finding a single reference to this laptop in this forum which surprises me. Do any of you have any experience with it?
It only comes in a core i5 while the Toshiba's I think i can get in an i7 but I don't know that this would make a lot of difference for home/business use.
Any thoughts/opinions/recommendations?

The G770 is a good laptop, I've seen a review up but it was in Malaysian. Anyhow, the difference between a i7 and i5 is not much unless you know you can specifically run programs or games that can make use of all 4 cores.
I'm liking the HD 6650M on the G770 which has manual switch via AMD driver software, this allows the card to be switched off when on battery automatically and always on the HD 6650M on the desktop.
The HD 6650M is a not a very powerful card but as you've mentioned you won't be gaming much on this desktop replacement laptop.
IMO, a very good buy. -
If you live in Canada, I think you should consider :: Acer Aspire AS7750G-6871 for $749.99$ (it has a 6850M)
NCIX.com - Buy Acer Aspire AS7750G-6871 Intel Core i5 2410 6GB 750GB 17.3IN Radeon 6850 DVDRW WIN7 HP Notebook - Acer - LX.RK002.011 - in Canada -
Definitely a better buy than the G770, those were two I was looking at when I wanted to 17.3". However, I ended up with a Votro 17.3" with GT 525M (returned because came faulty and got a Y570) because it there was promotion and the Acer was too expensive at the time and the G770 expected delivery time was 6 weeks.
The things I do not like about the Acer is the keyboard which is basically used on all Acer laptops (both G770 and Vostro is better), the touchpad being tad small and a bit irresponsible (I tried it first hand in store) and questionable cooling from Acer (possibility throttle when playing games, can be said the same about the Vostro but Dell offered 2 year business class warranty).
The positives are: HD 6850M (even though it's only 1GB GDDR3 version), dual hard drive bay (very useful for adding a SSD in the future) and the price (can't go wrong paying $750 with those specs)
I'd go with the above recommendation on the Acer if you're buying in Canada.
Should I buy a G770?
