I just ordered a Y50 UHD from Lenovo EPP Canada at a good price.

However, there are two issues I have read about that are giving me pause:

    1. Hinge problem

    2. Yellow issue

Has anyone ordered one recently, and have these issues been resolved?

Can one return the unit because of the yellow issue without being hit with a 15% restocking fee?

    1. Hinge problem:

If you ordered the non-touch version, you shouldn't be affected by this issue.

    2. Yellow issue:

If you ordered the 'refreshed' Y50 with GTX 960M, it contains a IPS panel, and it no longer suffers from the 'yellow' issue the older TN panel equipped models suffered from.

The yellow issue has nothing to do with the TN panel. The TN had horrible color on general, but the 4k (PLS or IPS) has a yellow issue. I don't know if it was fixed with the new 4k revision.

Thanks all. I decided not to wait any longer and bought an Asus n550jk after cancelling my Y50 order.

The Asus has a gorgeous IPS screen and great build quality. It even includes 1 year accidental damage protection.

It looks like I didn't cancel soon enough.

It should be shipped to me this Thursday.

I got confirmation from Lenovo that I can try out the Y50 so I can compare it to the Asus without incurring a restocking fee if I return it within 30 days.

We'll see if they fixed the yellow issue. I'll also visually inspect the hinge (though what will that really prove??).

Read my previous post. Did you order the touchscreen version? If not, you don't have to worry about the hinge issue.

I received the Y50 UHD, and am in the process of returning it.

The keyboard isn't as nice as the Asus, and the display still has the mustard yellow problem.

Also, black and white levels are inferior to the Asus.

It did have a nice sharp screen, though.

So will you be joining us? Haha, the n550 does have a sginificantly lower performance graphics card

No, as I said, I returned the Y50. Yes, the graphics card is stronger in the Y50, but I prefer to have a nice screen, good keyboard, and no worries about cracking hinges.
