I have ordered the following T400 w/ discrete graphics:
    2.4 GHz 1066MHz 3LMB cache
    3GB RAM
    Vista Premium
    160HD at 7200rpm

It's apparent I've been spending way too much time in NBR forums because I keep second guessing my system spec selections! I don't know why I would need 64-bit Vista other than others have called it "the way of the future" and that it performs "better" and is more "safe and secure". I am currently going with 32-bit Vista and ordered only 3GB of RAM because I know that 32-bit Vista can't recognize much more than that. Is it worth it for me to upgrade to 4GB of RAM and 64-bit Vista so my laptop will be more future-proof? I won't be changing any hardware myself after this thing arrives so I want to make sure I get it right now.

    Thanks,
    Susie

I think you'll be just fine.

If you don't specifically know why you need the extra 1G memory or 64bit version of Vista today, then stick with what you have.

BTW, changing stuff like memory is "fall off a log" easy. All else fails a local computer shop ( not Best Buy or that ilk) will usually do it real cheap. We are literally talking four screws and two minutes.

Ok Ok ... I'll stick with what I've ordered. I'm just paranoid about making the right choices. I think what I've ordered is more than enough for my needs. Love the "falling off a log" analogy - I'm pretty handy so I'm sure I could handle it. Crossing my fingers now for an LG panel!

Stick with what you are comforatable with and what you know works for you. You are gonna do just fine with what you have ordered. Despite promises of a brighter future with Vista 64 and claims of universal compatability( and yes it is eventually gonna mature to that level) there are alot of people that currently wish they had not purchased a Vista 64 computer.

I bought the cheapest OS option and put vista x64 ultimate on every machine I use. I run 4gb of ram in my desktop machine. Right now i'm running mplayerc with a 300mb star trek episode running and 3 tabs in firefox using 1.67 gb of ram. The other 2.3gb is caching things like ffxi, excel, vlc, newsleecher, foobar2000, adobe audition, and whatever else I happen to be using most this month. So whenever I start these commonly used programs, BOOM straight out of ram, no waiting on slowbutt hdd. x64 + 4gb ftw.
