I leave my laptop on 24/7? Will it hurt the drive or does it not matter?

Doesn't matter. Now if you were using it as a server and WRITING to it all the time it might matter (or at least make SLC worth the premium).

The lifespan of you SSD will be greater than the lifespan of your laptop (more applicable to non-Thinkpads, but you get the idea). Don't worry so much about a SSD's lifespan, even if you leave it on 24/7. Now, I would think that SSDs would be more reliable than conventional hard drives in machines that are on all day. To my knowledge, disk drive heads eat up lubricant and falter when they're continuously left on, and if the computer is shut down, there is little hope for it to boot up properly without a hard drive replacement. This is the case at a couple labs on-campus...Machines are left on for a few months, there's some maintenance need to shut down the machine, machine doesn't boot up...Culprit? The hard drive. I can't see this being a problem with SSDs, so I'd opt for the SSD just for the sake of reliability.

I've had my Intel SSD since late November of '09 and my other SSD for almost a year. Don't worry, your SSD will outlast your laptop no problem.

Edit: I don't know how reliable this is, but Intel states the life expectancy of its SSD to be 1.2 million hours. That's about 137 years!

well maybe there will be a medical breakthrough and you may live another 135 years LOL. Now THAT would be a good investment for the price ! Am still waiting for price to go down since I need at least 256 GB space.
