Hi everyone, the T440 owners lounge thread was closed for some reason so I hope it is alright if I open a new thread on this old device.

So a few days ago I bought a refurbished Thinkpad T440 with I5 4300U, 8GB RAM and 250GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD for 190€. I received it today and it is in pretty good condition and seems to be barely used. I only could find one issue that really bothers me. The display bazel is loose at one spot and now Im not sure if I should keep or return the device.

So my question is, is this just a cosmetic issue or will this cause technical issues down the road? I can deal with this if it is just cosmetic. I googled this issue and it seems a lot of people were affected by this even when the T440 was still brand new. But I couldnt find an answer to if this is only cosmetic. I would be thankful if someone here could help me make up my mind.

To me that’s just the glue (double sided tape?) underneath the bezel to stop the bezel and the screen having a gap as it’s showing. It’s cosmetic.
    You could do it yourself.
If not check to see if they have anymore units. At the end of the day it won’t effect anything and it’ll stay working. Just depends if you can live with it.

Yes, this part is glued around the display and came loose at this spot. I can see very faint the backlight shine through if I look at this spot from the top stright down. Im just worried that his part is supposed to be a seal or something to prevent dust, etc. to get in there. But if it is really just cosmetic it doesnt bother me very much. Any idea what I could use to fix this myself?

Yeah the backlight shine is normal. Once it’s stick back you won’t see it.
I’ve had laptops myself that have come away. But doubled tape is the norm. You can’t really use glue because if you needed to replace the panel, you’d have snap and replace the bezel.
I’m sure a very good one will be enough. If you can open it enough to stick a bit in there. That will keep it closed and easier than taking the bezel off especially if your not used to taking laptop.
There’s actually YouTube videos of tear downs. That will certainly help and easy to follow.
