I was just curious about this. I was playing with my new X200 and was asked if I want to register my Thinkpad with Lenovo. I skipped it but wonder if I should. What are benefits to registering? What are the negatives? How does this effect warranty coverage? Do you still have warranty coverage even if you don't register? Thanks.

I registered, but I don't think it affects your warranty, which is tied to your machine. At least with other OEMs I have experience with, when you call in for warranty service, they register you over the phone anyway.
The benefit, I guess, is that you can expedite your over-the-phone experience, while the only negative I can think of is that Lenovo occasionally sends you some emails. -
It could theoretically come in handy if your machine ever gets stolen and the thief tries to get it serviced, but aside from that I'm not sure what if any benefit there is to registering.

No harm in registering. I've never had any spam issues with Lenovo and I imagine it would make any warranty issues a bit smoother. Then again, as others said, why bother? If you bought direct from Lenovo they already have your email and mailing addresses, along with other information.

Yes, thats right. I knew that, forgot about that, good point. MidnightSun says that the warranty is not affected whether I register or not, it is still what ever I bought/got. Can you verify this? -

I didn't buy it from lenovo, I bought it from someone. -
That is correct... warranty is related to the machine's serial number, not the owner, and it is transferable. In fact, you can lookup details of the warranty on Lenovo's site with the model number and serial number.

With Computrace all they have to do is sign on the net and their caught.

The benefit of registering is that message will not pop up again.

Right, I already know that but I wasn't sure how registering affected it. I guess it doesn't. -

OK, I guess I will register with Lenovo. Hope they don't send me too much junk.
Thanks everybody.
Should I register my machine with Lenovo?
