    Should I repaste my y410p?

Here are my temperatures, I'm wondering if they're normal:

    GPU: 100% @ Boost Clock + 120MHz OC - 88C-92C
    CPU: 50% @ 2.2GHz - 80C-84C

I'm not sure if these are normal temps, I'm planning on getting a good cooler with adjustable high-powered fans to blast into the intake.
Will that be enough? Maybe capping it at 85C instead of 92? It's kinda worrisome.

If not, should I repaste? I think I can figure out how, I've watched the dis-assembly video, I'm just wondering if it'll help.

Is it really a thermal paste issue? I mean unless a computer is older than a year, I don't think replacing the thermal paste is needed right? I think the reason it is so hot is because it is a single fan configuration.

Correct me if I am wrong, of course.

Lenovo does a crappy job of pasting from the factory. I repasted my ultrabay GPU and temps went down over 10 c and it stopped throttling.

To update everyone, I repasted and it worked well. Gpu maxes at 86, average of 83. Cpu hits like 75 now, maybe 80 with both on load. It's well worth it, I used Arctic Cooler MX-2.

And yeah, Lenovo isn't the keenest on paste.

86 and 75 are still really hot.

I wonder how long the laptop can survive with those temps.

My before temps are at the top and unfortunately the design of the y410p is a single fan design, and the pipes are shared. by the way this is when I'm playing Bf3 at 1080p medium, which is pretty demanding in itself.

If those are normal temperatures for a gaming notebook then what are the average gaming notebook lifespan. How are your Y500 holding up? I know that you repasted it right when you got it...

    What temperatures are you getting?

You bought your laptop two years ago right? How is the case holding up? I know that the build quality isn't spectacular and it is sort of plasticy and filmsy. Are you on the laptop a lot of the time?

If you are hovering at 80 Degrees C at most of the time, wouldn't that shorten your laptop's life span?

Compared to what similarly priced notebook is a Y500/Y510p "sort of plasticy and flimsy"?

Coming from an $800 Acer, this thing is as solid as a brick.

Well then, I'm convinced you've never handled a Y500/Y510p, or you handled one that was seriously defective/tampered with.

Unless you're purposefully exerting a stupid amount of pressure on it, you shouldn't notice much flex.

I have a lenvovo y410p. It should be the same build quality as the lenovo y510p right?

No, I bought my Y500 a bit over a year ago. Still looks brand new 'cause I'm a big boy and I take good care of my toys. I'm on it at least a few hours every day. Maybe your Y410p feels more plasticky and flimsy because the lid is plastic faux carbon fiber instead of brushed aluminum (like the palmrest) on the Y500/Y510p? Dunno. I think build quality is fine for the price, fit and finish could be a bit better though.

I'm not "hovering at 80C most of the time." Those are just my max temps while gaming. They're not even close to the temperatures which would severely decrease lifespan or damage components.

Does the Y500 have better cooling than the Y410P? Do you use your Y500 to play PS2 a lot?

My Y410P gets so hot. :(

Cooling-wise, probably not. They have pretty much the same internal configuration, and I doubt the slightly larger chassis of the Y500 affects airflow and cooling much, if at all.

The big difference makers would be the hot Haswell CPU and 750M/755M GPU. Ivy Bridge and 650M both run cooler.

PlanetSide 2 was my main FPS for a while but I'm currently taking a break from it. The thing is, the game is so unoptimized that my hardware is barely utilized, so temps are pretty low. Both CPU and GPU stay in the 70's the whole time, 60's if I'm playing at night or on a cold day.

Why haven't you repasted yet? Or get a cooling pad. Seems like you've been complaining about too-high temps for the better part of year, yet done nothing about it. LOL

I should repaste. Not sure how difficult it would be to open it up to get to the heat sink.
