Should I trade my (free, extra) 6-cell battery for a 4-cell?

Can't edit the title apparently.. first of all this is for a T61

Ok, thanks to getting screwed over on my initial May order I was the beneficiary of a free 6-cell battery.

Now, batteries aren't cheap.. I think this was probably about 120-150 bucks worth of free goods, which is quite cool.

However, I already have a 7-cell. Gives me 3-4 hours of battery life, which is good I suppose. Sure, it sticks out the back and gives a little weight. I'm not concerned about the sticking out the back, I don't have a complex like some people do about it.

My question is, what's the battery life difference between a 4 and a 6, and what's the weight difference?

If it's a big weight difference I may actually want to trade with someone for a 4 cell, since most of the time I use it it's around the house and if it's 2 hours vs 3 hours I can probably get by no problem, and I'll always have the extra battery if I need it. It may be nice to have the 4 cell for comfort.

Any tips? And if so, does anyone want to trade their FRESH 4-cell for a brand new never used 6?

Well, I run 2 9-cells, and an ultrabay. I believe the ultrabay 's the equivalent of about a 3-4 cell battery. I don't think you want a 4 cell because it doesn't really give you ANY battery power, at full power you're probably talking no more than an hour and change. However, if the 4 fits the most flush, then maybe it's worth it.

I like my 4-cell. It depends on what you graphics you have in your machine (I have the X3100), and what what you do with it. I could probably get a straight 2 hours runtime easily from my battery but I seldom have time to be on my computer that much each day. The battery itself is tiny - seems like the size of a mini-maglight!

Sell your battery and replace your other battery's cells with high capactitance ones from batteryspace.com. This assumes you can solder parts together.

I did it to one of my older laptops. The battery life ended up being higher than when I got it new.

i personally would keep the 6 cell, but if you arent a hard core road warrior and want some aesthetics, go ahead and do the trade.

I'm not really that hardcore a "road warrior" :) I mean, even with a 4 I'd have a 7 cell AND a 4 cell, so probably 5 1/2-6 hours total, which is quite a bit of time. I can't say at the end of 6 hours I'd really be wishing I had that extra 90 minutes from the larger battery.

Soooo.. anyone want to trade a great condition 4cell for a brand new 6?

So tempting. I have a 4 cell with 0 cycles on it.
