I'm considering replacing my old T61p, and I'm wondering if the T440p is worth the wait compared to a T430 with Nvidia graphics card. I've heard some good things about Haswell mobile. So what are the main differences between the T430 and T440p spec wise? How much of an improvement will the T440p be compared to the T430 performance-wise?

Probably depends on what you're doing, which you didn't say much about. I don't think Haswell offers much of a performance bump over Ivy Bridge. Where it really shines is battery life when using an ULV voltage CPU. I believe the Intel integrated GPU is significantly better. The T440p is likely to offer a much better screen than the T430, though you will lose the trackpoint buttons if you care.

I would like to know what people are expecting from this in terms of specs and dimensions. I don't know much about the Lenovo brand. It seems strange to me that they would give three different laptops the same name (T440) and yet use different chasis on them.

They probably use the T designation on all three because the T series is what resonates most with customers.

I plan on running some pretty demanding software, mainly CAD and animation. 14 inch is what I'm comfortable carrying on campus.

I'm in the same boat. Wait for the T440p unless you don't need the better battery life (1-2 extra hours over the T430, realistically) and don't care if the display is sub-par 1600x900 (if you have tablet/phone with a high PPI display I would never recommend the T430 display)...it's borderline unbearable going from my iPad to 1440x900 laptop.

Of course not. It will be the same 16:9 1920x1080 screen as used in the T440s.

4.1 pounds is pretty good to me. Are we expecting it to be under an inch thick?

Ironic how thick the laptop is and yet they use ULV's.....

    I miss the T61p :(

    Nope - T440p uses Standard-Voltage CPUs. ;)

I would guess it will be around 26 - 28 mm thickness.

Well, that's good to know. That also means there is a decent chance the i7-4702MQ might slip itself into the higher configurations :p

What would be the performance jump of the T440p versus, say, a fairly high end T430 with i7 or i5-3380?

Well, in tems of CPU performance, probably like 5-10%. In terms of battery life, probably like 1-2 extra hours. In terms of GPU, maybe like 40% better graphic performance.

    Something like that.

Is this for integrated or dedicated graphics?

Well, I've settled for a high end T430 with the i5-3380 and NVS graphics card. Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card later on, and if so, would that void the warranty?
