    So after many weeks of waiting, I should be getting my thinkpad (R400) tomorrow. There were several problems with UPS so instead of taking 1.5 weeks like it should have (the outlet actually sent the machine out within a week), it took 3+ weeks to get here. Anyhow, I should be getting it tomorrow barring any more exceptions and problems.

    What are the first things I should do when I get it? How can I check for problems? Fastest way to get rid of bloatware? How do I set the battery threshold and how does that work? I'm in finals week in college so I can't spend too much time figuring stuff out right away, but I do want to get the computer off to a good start.

    Thanks.

    Turn it on and follow the initial setup. Then enjoy it...

    There isn't THAT much bloat. And just go into power manager and look for the battery settings for your thresholds.

    Also, I've been reading that Lenovo either uses LG or Samsung screens for thinkpads and that it's a luck of the draw as to which one you get. Is this the case for the R400 as well? And how do you know which one you have?

    Don't worry. Either screen will be fine, if it's REALLY BAD (hardly the case) then you will notice it. People on here are picky compared to the general public :p

    How can I check for problems?

    Go into windows device manager and look for exclamation marks.
    Computer--->System Properties----> Device Manager

    Fastest way to get rid of bloatware?

    Find out what you don't want and uninstall it then run defrag
    Computer--->Uninstall/Change

    Go into windows performance information and tools and adjust windows appearance.

    I finally got my R400 today. Since UPS was pretty incompetent throughout the shipping process, I had to take a bus then a taxi to get my computer from the center (I go to college out-of-state, so I don't have a car). Anyways, I'm really happy with it, even though it took a lot of patience dealing with Lenovo and UPS all along.

    I have a question: how do I know if the battery I have is 6-cell or 9-cell? It certainly sticks out about an inch. It sticks out straight horizontally (doesn't have an incline like some of the pictures I've seen).

    Correct! The 9 cell should have an inclination upwards while the 6 cell just sticks out the back. By your description looks like you have a 6 cell.

    Not to burst your bubble, but three plus weeks isn't that long. People used to wait six months or longer for certain configurations of ThinkPads, but it was more of an investment back then.

    I know three weeks isn't that long, but the problem was that they sent it out the week after I ordered, but they had the wrong shipping address on it and didn't send me a confirmation so I could change it before they shipped it out. And then when I got it rerouted after UPS tried delivering it across the country (I go to school on the East coast and live on the West coast), they had the wrong zip code on the rerouted address by one digit so they tried delivering it to residence in another city, and that was a mess. I guess all the problems could have been avoided had Lenovo sent me a confirmation email on time rather than having them send it out after calling multiple times (one person was nice enough to pull up my order information and tell me that I was supposed to get it days a few days ago, at which point I could have changed the address on time, avoiding the problems with UPS). Anyways, I have my computer now and I'm happy with it, but the school year's just about to end so there's not really a need for it, but it'll come in useful next fall and possibly over the summer as well.
