    I just ordered a Y550P With I5, 4g ram, Nvidea Gt 240, 500G HD,DVD, BT for $749 with a coupon. I'm replacing a 8yr old Dell 8200 Pent 4m, 2gig ram, 120G HD, 60G modular HD, Radeaon 9400 64meg, 8 1/2 lb takes 2 batteries to get 4hrs laptop. She has been a good one. I've only had to replace the HD.
Anyway, great information on here. I read everything before I decided to buy. I can't wait for mine to get here.

For anyone looking to purchase the Y550P, Lenovo has a deal going on right now. Same config above but with an I7 instead of an I5 & a 320G instead of a 500G HD. The coupon code is USPY650412 & it's good until 4/19/10. On the site under the tab Y550P choose the one priced at $1149 the coupon will give you $300 off. Good luck!

Ordered a Y550p about a week ago and it arrived this past Monday (3 year old Dell e1505 was fried in a thunderstorm) and I must say I'm very happy so far with my purchase.

    First Impressions:
-Handles anything I throw at it. (I'm a huge HD buff and the way this thing chews up 1080p while my old machine would pixel out every couple of seconds is a real blessing)
-Experiencing the PC gaming world for the first time is also great, running Crysis on all-high settings was quite the eye opener.
-Fan is very quiet and the side exhaust is a very efficient way to make this a great "lap"top

Only have had one issue so far, a few BSOD's which I'm fairly certain were caused by me accidentally blocking the exhaust vent when watching a film/playing a game. Other than that, this machine is a dream.

This loose hinge is getting even worse, causing random artifacting on the screen. I guess it is time to send it back as soon as exams are over.

Hi everyone! I am self learning how I can, no electronic education at all. I got my Y550 Core(TM)2Duo CPU P7350 @2.00GHz 2.00 GHz, 6GB RAM, 64-bit, NVIDIA GeForce, 500HB HDD etc. It came with Vista home premium. I uninstalled it and installed Win7 Ultimate on it, everything is working is wonderful, I adore my Y550, just one thing that after getting rid of Microsoft Windows Vista OEM.reg it erased the Lenovo Y550 model and original logo. Is there any other way to get the original model and lenovo logo back without installing the manufacture recovery drivers and support disk? I will appreciate your help and advice.

Thank you guys for trying to help me. Finally I saved all my data on my portable hard drive and reinstalled the windows. Now the computer got back to built-in Admin account. I don't think it is so bad, at least I am in charge of the computer and no need to buy a software to fix microsoft bull.

yes of course I did have all admin privilege on my lenovo Y550, no problem, Ii love my machine, it took one minute to jump back to the original admin account on it, but the the real problem I got it was with dell inspiron desktop, it was not easy like with lenovo, it was not built as good as IBM(!!!). Actually it was absolutely impossible to do anything on that crap. but I tried all I could and even all clever advise...

I'm just wondering if anyone else get really high temps on their 130M GPU's. I hit 100C (both real temp and hwmonitor report this temperature) playing fallout3 yesterday, and on a card with a max temp of 105C, its got me a little worried. Ambient temp was something like 25C. I'm looking more to see if anyone else is experiencing these temps, not really a solution.

    Comp: y550, p7350 @ 2ghz, 6gbDDR3, w7 64bit

even if someone could just point me to a better spot to ask this question haha...

EDIT: I should prolly say... other then this, I am in love with this laptop

A friend of mine wanted me to find him a gaming laptop for $400 or under and all I could seem to find were netbooks or laptops with the ATI 4250 in them.

He only wants it to be able to play World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

I searched for days trying to find something and eventually ran into a seller on ebay with a 100% positive feedback score with over 700 transactions, selling a Lenovo Y550 in near mint condition with a brand new battery for $385 + $15 shipping. He didn't know until someone, just before me, asked what kind of GPU it had until asked. It's a GT 130m :)

I quickly moved $400 from my savings into my checking and frantically bought it.

    Specs are:

    *2.4ghz Core 2 Duo -- (Confirmed p8600
    *4GB Ram -- (DDR3 533)
    *500GB HDD -- (5200 rpm)
    *NEW* (6 cell battery)
    *Geforce GT 130M (GDDR3 512MB)
    *Windows 7 Professional x64

Sorry for the bump maybe I should have made a new thread.

    -edit-
No MXM Type A so no upgrades but, thankfully GDDR3 is there!

I'm pretty surprised this laptop ended up a "sleeper" gaming system.
I picked it up for $400 in NM condition and I've seen M11x Alienware's selling for $600+ on Ebay.
I know they are equipped with a 335M (DX11?) vs the old 130M (DX10) but, the M11x's have pretty weak CPU's.

After doing some digging on NewEgg, One user reported 6450 in 3DMark06 for the T6500 equipped model and a user on the Lenovo forums reported roughly the same score @ 6365 and another @ 6462 (I'm assuming Win7x64). An M11x scores lower @ roughly 6000 - 6250.

When running Furmark the newest Nvidia 270.61 cause the 130M to reach 96-98*c however, the drivers from Lenovo's website, can't remember what they are 189.something, tops out around 92c so I'm sticking with them for now.
I know those temps sound alarming but, I read on some forums that the 130M can handle well over 100c.
I've also picked up a Xpad Slim

I know it's an old program but, I ran 3DMark06 just to see how the system compares to others.
I consistently hit around 6650 each time.

The ASUS G72GX-RBBX05 (which I consider one of the best deals out there at $730 factory refurbished @ amazon) scores around 10,000 in 3DMark06.

I know it is considered "Old Tech" but, it was $400 and in mint condition and should run WOW all the way through Cataclysm with no issues.
