I'm trying to open space to install XP on my t400.
C: Pre-Load takes up like 137 GB, and I can only shrink it by 445 MB
Why? Is it ok to convert the Basic disk to DYNAMIC?

Try GPartEd liveCD. I've had great success with it for both NTFS and Linux partitions.
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ -
can't boot from my USB...
is it supposed to work on windows? -
i ran into similar problem. within windows, you can use paragon partition manager. But I just did a clean install and partitioned it during vista setup, my system got cleaner & faster as the result... it took me 3hrs or so including downloading & installing all the drivers & updates though.

You burn the image to a CD and boot from the CD. It'll boot into linux and give you a GUI where you can resize/delete/create/merge partitions of many different file systems.
-
alright i got to the gparted by creating a bootable CD..
im testing it on a separate computer and then ill try on my laptop
how do i access the paragon partition manager -
Fvcking great
GParted destroyed my desktop: cannot even access boot, hangs up at Verifying DMI pool data
tried fixboot, fixmbr, bootcfg through Recovery console -
just a tip, never use Partition-whatever unless you KNOW EXACTLY what you are doing
-
^Sorry about that. I've used GPartEd on multiple machines, desktops and laptops, without any problems. You did select the correct file system right?
-
correct file sys?
you mean NTFS and FAT?
