My background on start up and shutdown changed from the lenovo thinkpad to the Windows 7 one.

does anyone know how to change this back and why it did this?

Yes, you probably changed the Windows Theme. That caused the registry value to change back (at least it does so in my case). Start "regedit.exe", then go to

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background

and change the value OEMBackground back to "1". I add this registry path to "favorites" in the registry tool since it happened to me more than once. The changes should be reflected immediately without a restart. In case your image was deleted/replaced, you have to put it back in:

    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\background\backgroundDefault.jpg
