    I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 - which I use connected to a monitor when at home.

The other day I did the correct combination of things to shut the laptop lid without the laptop hibernating.

I have not been able to repeat this - was it just chance or is there an official way of accomplishing this?

In XP, right-click the desktop, select Properties
Then select the Screen Saver tab...
In this tab, click the Power button.
In the Power Options Properties dialog, click the Advanced tab.
Under the Power buttons section, set what you want to happen,
    then click Ok twice.
