Clearly you get more bang for you buck with the T60 (better screen resolution etc.) more power, better graphics. But is the weight and size difference really so good as to warant a purchase of the X60 along with the added battery life?
I'm currently studying Comp Sci and not going to be playing any games on my computer. So I'm basically stuck between a T60 and the extra size and weight of it (I Have a USB DVD burner so that's of no use for me either really) and the extra cost and less power of a X60 but with the added life and better weight / size.
Hoping for advice.

I wish I still had my X21 with me...
The 14" T60 is about 1" bigger in both directions, but it's the same thickness as the X.. With the 6 cell battery, the 14" weighs 5 lbs, which is about 1.5 lbs heavier than the X60. With the 9 cell, the T60 weighs about .3 more than that, which isn't bad. If you get a backpack, you won't notice the difference between the 2. -
My T43 looks much larger and feels much heavier.
Actually the front of my X is less than a half-inch thick.
By volume, the X is mathematically half the bulk of a 15 inch T-series. -
If you are carrying it every day, the X is the way to go. You could wait for the X tablet which is supposed to have a SXGA+ option.
-
Just curious, is your programing work cpu intensive?
-
I went from a 14" to a 12" display and after a short period of adjustment I can't imagine going back to the bigger notebook. When you compare the weight on paper the difference may not seem significant, but it is a pleasure not having to carry the extra ounces. Still, orca3000 asked the more important question. Is the X60 powerful enough for the kind of work you do?

I'm going to get a T60 and re-sell it when they launch the X60 with SXGA+ and then buy that.
I'm getting this deal: Any comment if it's a good deal or not?
$1,461.85
Lenovo ThinkPad T60 2007
Core 2 Duo T7400 / 2.16 GHz
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Centrino Duo
RAM : 1 GB
HD : 120 GB
CD-RW / DVD
Gigabit Ethernet
802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
TPM
fingerprint reader
14.1" TFT 1400 x 1050 ( SXGA+ )
Also anyone know how much tax is added (I'm from New Jersey) but mainly I want to know if it's a good deal (the best) or not =) -
It's a terrible deal to buy a leading edge notebook like that with the view that you will sell it and get something differerent soonafter.
Because you can expect to lose 30-40% of its value being a month or two used, plus sales tax loss.
By the way, the x tablet is already released with optional sxga+. -
I agree with SkiBunny on this one. Don't expect to make enough selling it to buy the X SXGA+ without putting in atleast 1/3 yourself. Why not just wait out until the machine you want is released?
-
1) there is a 35% sale now
2) I'm going to be in Denmark where they are about 30-40 sometimes 50% more expensive. And takes awhile before they get the new models. -
but the thinkpads here wont have the danish keyboard, which i presume most ppl in denmark will want, should you try to resell it later.
-
as a CS student you'll probably need a lot of memory for running
- a DBMS like Oracle XE 10g or similar
- Java virtual machine
- an application server like jboss, oc4j etc.
- IDE tool for development in java
- IDE tool for development in C++
- modeling tool like MagicDraw, Rose, Visio etc.
- MS suite
- a lot of browser sessions
- multimedia tools, e.g. watching internet satelite TV while developing and running programs
all of these big memory eaters
You need something that is sturdy and feels sturdy and with a LOT of operative memory, preferrably 4GB. T60 is a better choice I think -
I don't know if you've priced out SO-DIMM's recently, but 2 gig sticks are REALLY expensive...
-
I can purchase a Danish keyboard if that becomes an issue.
-
Unless you want to run all that at the same time with the fanciest vista gui.
Btw, i am now using an x60 with currently 1.5 gig ram and its heaven. 4 gig, at this point in time, is *way* to expensive. Theres exceptions to that of course, but the apps you mention are nowhere near justifiyng the price of 4 gig i would say. -
Those apps ran fine on the T20 series.
I think most ppl won't get much benefit from more than 1.5-2 gb RAM,
and even fewer will get any benefit from core 2 duo.
Meanwhile, many of them ignore upgrading their crappy networking which WOULD make a hella difference, LOL -
yea, it always amazes me how people think they need the latest and fastest with as much ram as possible, when most of em wouldnt even notice the difference for the work they do on it. (I dont mean to suggest the thread starter here is one of em).
Marketing works, after all...
Really, i mean, most people have no clue how freaking fast these machines are these days. ... -
hey ZaZ... your sig says "unbuntu" ...
go with the T60 14". sooner or later you'll be needing that extra graphics card and the size of the screen.
or, as ZaZ said, wait for the sxga+ X60 tablet (by the way, will the tablet OS make other programs slow?)
