Has anybody seen any information about the upcoming Skylake Thinkpads? Apparently Skylake is coming in August-September so I'm surprised we haven't seen any leaked photos/specs so far, or have any threads going on here already (I think?).
AFAIK, Skylake eliminates VGA, and compounded with Lenovo having already re-used the same design for two iterations (Haswell and Broadwell), it may be in indication that a redesign is coming.

Interesting when anyone asks this question there is no response.

The closest you’ll get is the thread at http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...eresting-thinkpad-launching-this-week.771491/, but that wound up dying fantastically.

I thought to myself "_that_ must be what lead_org was talking about"
He probably jumped the gun and teased it earlier than he was supposed to. Too bad that a lot of people weren't understanding enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.BinkNR likes this. -
I'm hoping they refresh the Yoga 12 with the new CPU. I've been waiting to pull the trigger because of this chip and windows 10. If they are going to, hopefully they don't take too long.
-
My understanding is that the vPro versions of the CPUs are coming in January 2016. The September 2015 release is only the consumer versions. I wouldn't expect Skylake Thinkpads for another 6 months.
-
Maybe. Or maybe there is a limited release for select markets in fall (similar to Haswell, where the T440s was already on sale on some markets as early as July 2013, while the Haswell vPro CPUs were released in September 2013).

P.S. VGA in some business environments is still a necessity. HDMI is equally so today with so many LED and other method HDTV monitors. Look forward to see what Lenovo will be doing with Skylake powered ThinkPads.

Yes, but too many dongles and you're adding weight for necessary functions.

VGA is going away with Skylake, no doubts about that. They already said 5 years ago that VGA will go away in 2015, and they repeated that when they announced the T431s in early 2013 ("VGA is going away in two generations").
As for the future, its HDMI + mDP, which is really the best and most modern display-output combination. I think VGA will still be on docks for some time though. -
Isn't Thinkpad Y260 coming in Nov. or Dec.? Plus it weights only 3 LP. -
-
Anyone know when the Yoga 460 is coming out?
-
For me, it is practical and well built, or it is not.
-
Dongles get lost, impractical. Don't belong on proper laptops which get WORK done. Dongles are for the thin and light, Apple influenced Play TOY crowd (they don't often do WORK)

I was just looking for something with a new i7 or i5 processor but couldn't find anything on their web page. I'd like what probably won't come to pass but I think I want an Yoga 15" with a pop out RJ45.

If you have 2 screens with VGA and a brand new laptop then something is completely wrong with you...
I doubt that there is more then one person in the world with such a problem. -
VGA is still common in the Business world, never assume HDMI is everywhere. My point is some laptops need a wide variety of ports to accommodate working needs. ThinkPads are and should be built for the needs of businesses and for those who get it done. VGA will be with us in business for a few years yet. And I'd rather still carry an extra pound or two of weight if I get comprehensive I/O options, better durability, better ease of upgrading, etc. Thin and Light is not always best.
-
Regardless of thin and light, VGA will go away. Even models that are neither thin nor light, like the P70, won´t feature VGA.
-
Out with the old and in with the new, I'd like to see USB Type C on a ThinkPad sooner rather than later. We're seeing them mostly on thin and lights with ULV processors right now, and I fear it will be a while before the type c makes it into business machines (due to the exact same reasons VGA is still around) but fingers crossed, I'd love to be able to charge a laptop from the same charger as my phone.

Type C will eventually be in business machines like HDMI is getting in them. The business world is more conservative by nature. Give it time. Like several years.
-
The trick with USB charging is it cannot handle the current needed by powerful workstations and gaming systems. In order to have universal USB charging, there will need to be further modifications on USB power delivery that allow for 300 watts or more.
-
It makes sense workstations won't be able to easily charge off USB C, I'm thinking more along the lines of the X series, disappointed to see the ThinkPad Yoga 900 does not have USB C, but then again it doesn't have a pointing stick either so I don't consider it a "real" ThinkPad.
-
USB C charging is something for the future. Skylake ThinkPads will stick with normal power adapters, as already seen on Yoga 260 and 460.
-
Maybe 2017 I guess. Just another reason Doc Brown would be disappointed with the year 2015.
Skylake Thinkpads?
