My x200s has intel core2duo processor SL9400, but the system properties and device manager show only "L9400", without the "S". Is this right?
Info: they had just changed the mother board, does this mean they changed processor?
-
Yes and Yes. The SL9400=L9400 and the CPU is soldered to the mainboard.
-
Thanks! What else must have been changed when the motherboard was changed?
(and if SL=L, why is there the difference of writings?) -
Presumably, everything else that is on the mainboard would also have been changed (Intel GPU, and several of the ports [left side]). -
my X200T just arrived this morning and computer properties shows "L9600". like jon said, you'll see this processor listed both as SLxxxx and Lxxxx depending on how the planets are aligned that day.

Erik. How is the "Enhanced MultiTouch" display. In particular how do the viewing angles, brightness, grain level, etc. compare to other ThinkPad tablet displays (e.g. the SXGA+ display in your x61s, or ideally some of the other displays for the x200T).
-
From what i have heard from a person (not sure whether that is correct), SL9600 is the normal socket type cpu, while the L9600 is the non-socket version as used in the x200t. There is no difference in the CPU architecture just the way the final packaging form (socket and non socket).

jon - i haven't had time to compare the X200T EMT panel side-by-side with my X61s. the SXGA+ panel will undoubtedly win but that's to be expected. it's not fair to compare AFFS without a writing surface against IPS with a writing surface. it's just not apples-to-apples.
however, the X200T EMT panel is definitely a great display. color and contrast are excellent. i typically find LED panels harsh but this one is great. turning down the brightness doesn't seem to affect color or contrast much.
regarding grain, the polycarbonate touch/writing surface adds some grain but this is unavoidable. i can say that the surface itself handles fingerprints quite well as a result. viewing angles are very good within normal use range. at extreme angles, the inherent grain in the writing surface causes some blur. again, this is unavoidable with a touch panel.
on a related note, those without the new two-finger MultiTouch panels will still be able to use SimpleTap. more on SimpleTap later though. i can't talk about it in any detail until it officially launches on the 22nd. besides, we're going way off-topic here since the topic was originally supposed to be about SL vs. L processors. -
besides, if L9xxx processors actually existed, they'd be listed here. -
There is this German wiki:
which says:
* „L“ – Mobile CPU: 12–19 W TDP; hohe Energieeffizienz, deutlich gesenkte Spannung (ehemals: „Low Voltage“ bzw. „LV“
* „SL“– Mobile Small Package CPU: 12–19 W TDP; hohe Energieeffizienz
Making any sense to anyone? There's got to be some difference between L and SL (small package means?). Just wonder which one is better. Before the repair, I had SL, now I have L.
(Where to find GPU info? I haven't found from system info.) Thanks as always -
once again, the SL and L are the exact same processor. download something like everest ultimate that can read both the CPU and CPUID. you'll see that the CPU says "SL9xxx" and the CPUID will show "L9xxx".
also, follow the link to intel's site i posted above. you won't see any L9xxx processors listed. there's a reason for this.
edit: this is what my SL9600 says for comparison...
-
So why writing them differently?
(Thanks for the link to everest ultimate--I'm downloading it) -
the answer to that question is above my pay grade. lol
intel would be the ones to ask.
