Will one see much difference in daily use? My use of laptop is browsing, office, some vm.
How about battery life?
Thanks
-
usually no perceivable difference in performance in your doing simple browsing (i.e. having only a few windows open) and word processing etc, battery life is better with the SL9400.
Is there a specific model of laptops that you are looking at? -

Battery life is a tricky thing measure, as yes you could possibly get more battery life with the SL9400, but if the i5 laptop you buy has a 9 cell option, then it could appear you get more battery life with a Core i5.
Also i5 are 35 watt, cause they have the IGP on the CPU die, so another thing to consider.
As lead_org stated, what models were you looking at? -
I post here. Now I have x201 with i5 480m and x200s with sl9400. Have to return one. Don't know which one too keep
Thanks. Please see my response to lead_org -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Do you know which battery each has?
The SL9400 should be fine for office work, my T5600 handles office work just fine (albeit running Windows XP), the Core i5 will be faster, but if your SL9400 handles it just fine, it is really up to you which you want to keep. The Core i5 might help resale value a bit later on.. -
201 has nine cell. 200s has six. I bought another six. 200s has wxga+, which I like
-
I have an x200s with the L9400 CPU and it works great for daily stuff such as you mention.
As always though, it depends on exactly what you do. For example, I sometimes give online seminars using Live Meeting and a few other conferencing packages. Sharing my desktop often causes both cores to jump up to almost 100% and the participants think I've lost my network connection since the audio/video stream freezes. By contrast, a Core i5 can handle this requirement with ease, I've tried it. -
I have an alienware m11x with an SU7300 that runs windows 7 and pretty mcuh any personal or professional tasks I do well. I even used the machine as a primary computer at work as a sys admin. With options all the same I would take the x200s.

why? just because of the higher res?
x201 has bigger HD and Ram and 9cell. but I don't really care. -
You can upgrade both ram and hd on x200s cheaply.
The question is - do you need lighter laptop with less powerful CPU and longer lasting on a charge (you can upgrade battery too) with higher res screen and that has been used and have limited or more expensive waranty upgrades available (you bought it from Lenovo outlet, right?) OR do you need brand new, faster, albeit bit hotter running and with lesser endurance on a charge laptop?
I say if Lenovo fixed your X201 then you should either keep it or sell it with no loss, given that you said you got it for very cheap thus didnt want to return it? You might as well sell your X201 for no loss or even some profit if you intend to keep x200s?
Or you can sell one, return x200s and then decide whether to opt for brand new Lenovo once again or not, the choice is yours, youve got many
-
Yes. bought x200s from outlet. was gonna cancel the order, but learned it's not possible.
they didn't fix my x201. i can't wait any more so I asked them to ship it back.
my original plan was to keep the x200s and return the x201. but i am not sure now. not sure if i will regret paying the same amount of money for less performance.
i like the look of 200s more and I think i will like the higher res too.
201 is a lot faster with i5, i think. it is also better equipped with 500g/4gb/9cell. 200s is 160g/2gb/6cell.
decision, decision... -
If the price is the same, i would keep the X201, but given that you can't return the X200s from the outlet, then i am not sure what you want to do in this situation.

If battery life is important then keep the X200s. The SL9400 can be undervolted to 0.925V using Throttlestop's SLFM mode. If want a little more oomph from the SL9400 then ask a bios modder to make you a dualIDA bios. Then could run 2.13Ghz on AC.

I am leaning towards the x201 too. it's a newer platform and better config. Just a less impressive screen. But 1280x800 should be OK. I am using 1366x768 on my Y550 without too much problem. Plus it's just for 'on the road' stuff. I have two 24" lcd at the office.
-
the sole reason that i want an x200s over the x201 is the screen.
i'v never seen 1440x900 on a 12" in person. Had the same res on my latitude d630 and it was good. on a second thought, it might be too harsh on my eyes. -
Id stick with the x201. But, I just found out WIDI works perfect on the i5 480 as well as other i3, i5, i7's.
Our office has only had one x200s over the years and the guy who has it is still using it without fail. I think we have seen the unit 3 times to install software. Not sure if id say the screen was that much better vs the speed and features id miss on the x201.
Though we have put a freeze on equipment buying right now in anticipation of newer tech. coming later this year. (x220 or?) -
so you think the higher res doesn't really look that nice?
-
The high resolution is beneficial if you want the sort of pixel density offered by a 12.1 inch WXGA+ otherwise you might as well stick with WXGA X201.
-
Honestly unless you do something that requires that kind of power then keep the x201. I can do anything personal and anything at work as a systems administrator on a ULV cpu. I even encoded a few videos on it just fine. Sure my i7 quad core handles the encoding alot faster, but not enough to make the ULV chip feel like its lacking. The higher res screen, better battery life, cooler temps and same real world performance make it an easy choice for me. If you dont want the x200s Ill take it!
-
if i were to give it away.... i will keep both
it's just x210 is coming out, i am already buying the last gen technology if i go with x201. x200s is gonna be two generations old in a few weeks...
i think i will keep the x201. it's not that noisy. i barely notice the fan running. also, battery life is good enough for my use.
only thing i really really want on the x200s is the higher res. but i have never seen it in person on a 12". I guess i will see how it works. if i can't get over it, i will return the x201 or sell it. otherwise, i will try to return x200s. -
for example?
i do office work and browse web... sometimes two windows open side by side.
1440x900 is nice
-
i.e. when working with spreadsheets, and have two word document pages side by side, etc.
-
i c.
it's too hard to choose. either one will be ok for me. -

Hmm ... if it were me I would choose the x200 because of the battery life possibilities (undervolting cpu would help) and the screen.
-
Well if you choose to sell the x200s let me know.
-
I am keeping the x201...
-
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Agreed! Write me up as interested in the x200s as well!

Both look like nice machines ... the last Lenovo 12" machine I touched was an X60, and I have always liked the general 12" category model made by both IBM and Lenovo.
Ah well ... I'd make an offer on the x200s if I had the spare cash, believe me! -
my last 12" was a x60s, or x61s, can't remember. it's nice, but the res was too low. I sold it and got a d420. the x6x is nice, but you always got a keyboard map on your scree. same as my t60.
anyhow, i am not gonna sell the x200s. just return it. pay the fee if I have to. -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Well phooey!
Seriously though ... I am glad things will work out for you in this.
-
it's not easy, believe me.
i am sure either one will work for me. it's just we always want the most and worry about the stuff we lose before making decisions.
grass is greener on the other side of the hill. -

If there is anything a fungus knows, it is that.
Out of curiosity what res does the x201 screen give you? 1366x768? -
1280x800 - the 16:10 version of 1366x768
-
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Nice.
Same as my T400 - but either of the two res screens (or 1200x800) is for me a "bare minimum" ... 1024x768 was just two small for me as well! (In reference to your mentioning the X60 earlier.) -
agree......
-
Hmm maybe Ill see your x200s on the outlet soon. If it has the 1440x900 screen I may just pick it up.
