Whenever I try and put my r61 into sleep or hibernate mode it always turns itself back on without me touching it. Can anyone tell me what I can do to stop this from happening?

I wonder if Wake-on-LAN is turning it back on. Are you wired when this happens? If so, try turning off Wake-on-LAN in the BIOS.

in many systems wake on lan cannot be seen in bios. so go to device manager>network adapter>rightclick>properties>power management>untick 'allow this device to wake up the computer'

Thanks, this was happening to my systems too and that fixed the problem even though I had tried to disable it in the BIOS.

Get some NyQuil before you go to bed, it'll solve your problems! :)

But yes a good way to fix it is what kuncheesh said

It can also be due to sleep / hibernate settings. In Vista, you can tell how long to stay in sleep before going into hibernate. I first noticed this the day I got my T61. I would close the lid (sleep) and then, after like 20 minutes it would turn on and then back off (to hibernate this time).

Sometimes I wonder if these things aren't alive ;)
