So I ordered a T410 during the Pre-black Friday sales. I quoted out my machine and got it the cheapest possible. For me personally I didn't need the higher res (my eyes are too bad to use higher resolutions on a 14"), fingerprint reader (I've never used one on any laptop that actually worked well, or camera (I only used my current webcam probably twice in 2 years), but the only thing I was back and forth with was the Nvidia or integrated graphics.

My current system is an Asus 14" gaming system and I have been playing less and less video games as I got older. The last one I played was SC2 and that only lasted me one week before I got bored.

So yeah just yesterday my system shipped out from HK...I just hope that I won't regret not getting the dedicated video card but I can't think of any regular app I use which would utilize the GPU...

    All I do is:
    *Regular Office, email, web, youtube
    *Watching movies
*Some video and music conversions (CPU/memory/HDD intensive)
*VNC, IT Remote administration for work

I also got a 64GB SSD and 4GB RAM stick waiting for it at home. I also opted out the 2 year warranty since I bought it with my American Express card which would add an additional year to the 1. But yeah...that video card... I think my thinking was that if I really did need one the NVS would not be able to do much anyway and I could always build one of those ViDock setups. Has anyone else had this dilemma?

    Hi,
The dedicated gpu keeps the notebook resale value higher than a model with integrated gpu. If you attach your notebook to an external monitor via displayport, the video playback experience for most, if not all, FHD videos should be fluid.

Also try increasing the DPI in Win7 if the resolution is too small. Another trick is the pinch and expand finger motions on the touchpad to zoom in/out.

Whenever I encounter a quirky fingerprint reader, usually a firmware update resolves the issue for me.

Hope it works out well for you.

I would get it and see how you like it. I think you'll be surprised on how powerful the Intel HD graphics are.

If you are really worried about gaming and only game at home then I will look into the DIY ViDock. That way you can connect a powerful external video card to it and get a bigger external montior to play and watch on. But if you game on the go then it is not useful :(

Yeah I guess that's one good thing. I don't game on the go...usually too busy.

If you don't play games then you don't need to worry about it. You can watch 1080p movies with the integrated gpu.

A recent Dell E6500 owner had remorse over getting the NVS160M graphics. The DIY ViDock NVidia Optimus setup requires 4500MHD or Intel HD to give some spectacular performance tweak, which he didn't get. If you got the Intel HD T410 then can go a US$220 GTS450 x1.Opt setup to greatly improve gaming performance beyond what the NVS3100M ever could. You'll also get the better battery life with the IGP and it I assume the base unit was cheaper.

I concur with this completely. If you want to game, buy a console.

Or a desktop PC. I dont get why people buy those huge alienware laptops when they could get a PC just as powerful for less then half the price.

That is a "just right" T410 configuration for your intended usage pattern. You should not pain over the Intel integrated graphics processor. :) The WXGA 1366×768 (which Lenovo calls "HD") display is good enough. You will be able to watch 720p movies, for sure.

this is like people buying Hummer for the sake of showing off... probably a subset of conspicuous consumption. I have seen people lugging their 17 inch Alineware laptop around to show it off or put in their offices for typing up some word documents.

Ah thank you all for putting that into perspective...I can now wait without double-guessing myself. Yes I never thought the money-saving of Integrated video could go to a real video card and ViDock if I indeed want to play some PC-only game in the future. Much appreciated!

    Have you received the laptop?

I am in Canada and ordered a W510 on Nov 26 (black Friday sale), it has been shipped out on Dec 4, but still not even be able to check the status at UPS. I was told that it is normal because my laptop is still hold by Canada Custom.

    So worried!

Yup I have received the laptop. Ordered on 11/25. Received on 12/8. The keyboard was a tad clacky on the bottom left-hand side but I put some folded electrical tape on the bottom end and now it is rock solid. I'm very pleased with the T410...great build quality, fast, and I haven't had any need for a GPU so yeah no complaints really. Hope you get yours soon. Mine was stuck in customs for a few days too.

^^^ Good for you! :) The tape thingy is a common DIY remedy for the T410 and T510 keyboards I have seen around me.
