So, some T440ps come with both dedicated and integrated graphics, and some only have integrated. Does anyone here know if the models with only integrated have an empty slot to add a dedicated card? And if they don't, what is filling up that space (maybe the chassis is different, or there's an extra hard drive)?
I'm in the market to buy a T440p. But there are so many combinations! i5 or i7 dual core with discrete and/or integrated; i7 quad core with discrete and/or integrated; etc.
Ideally, I'd get one with i7 quad and discrete/integrated, and then later on upgrade the screen, ram, and hard drive. My usage is: graphic design using the adobe suite, and sketchup; light video and audio editing; web development; web research, spss, etc.
To meet my sub-$1000 budget, I'm trying to figure out what to sacrifice: i7 quad core or dedicated graphics?

you can not add a dGPU to many laptops that do not already have it ( unless you can do a motherboard swap with a dGPU board that fits the chasis and heatsinks.) of those it is a very very limited mumber of gaming and workstation laptops that can add or change their GPU's by an MXM card ( unless done externally like the 13" MSI and Alienwares )

Great to know! Thanks, KCETech1.
edit: Also, since I can't add/upgrade a graphics card, but I can (at least on the T440P) upgrade the CPU, then I think that answers my "what should I sacrifice" question. I should start with a i5 or i7 dual core (rather than quad core), and a dedicated graphics card, and in the future if I feel a need to upgrade the CPU, then I have that option.Last edited: Mar 12, 2015
