I have a T61 (non P), and like it very much, being a Mac user for most of the time, this laptop is great alternative. Anyways, long stories short.

I have NVS 140m, and 1440x900 res, but whenever I minimize a window, the graphic is a bit lagging, I mean the shrink motion looks slow. So do you think is the NVS 140m too slow for 2D or maybe the irregular screen resolution for a 14inch laptop?

    Many thanks.

Did you try different resolutions at all? Also check to see what is running as well as what is running in the background. It could be a lot going on and it's slowing you down. When you say new install do you mean you did a clean install of Windows completely?

    I'm having the same problem.

I did a clean install of vista and with all the updated drivers from the lenovo site.
I now have two problems. First firefox randomly crashes, and 2D performance is somewhat sluggish. For example, the minimize/maximize animation in Vista seems to drop frames. I had a Asus laptop and this didn't happen at all!

Meanwhile i'll run a hardware test to check any hardware problems...

    Any ideas?

I also have the "dropped frames" issue along with other UI slowdown. Same specs as max.
I've heard that nvidia drivers might be the problem.

I've disabled the minimize/maximize animation so it won't bug me, but yesterday i've had it...
My brother made a 1080p movie with a new mpg4 camera he's got, and we've download it to my T61 to play it at my samsung 42" lcd. Everything was good and i was gonna show up the new laptop to some friends while bragging about how great it is, and at the same time we would be watching the film.
But to my dismay the laptop was NOT able to play 1080p video... It was full of tearing to the point where it was completely impossible to see it.
We then copy the movie to a Sony SZ3 of a friend and play it without a single glitch. I can tell you that 720p is more of less ok, but some tearing appears at some point.
I'm quite sure that the problem resides with what is beeing discussed here, although at this point i'm open to any suggestion.
I've done all manner of things to speed up the laptop, including disabling (read killing) all programs (non essential) at the time of playing the video, defraged the hd several times with PerfectDisk to ensure perfect defragmentation.

I'm really lost on what to do so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

open the task manager and watch which process/program that constantly take lots of cpu/mem resources from your computer.

My T61 too can't play 1080p without frame dropping.

I think it might be the nvidia driver bug, it's just odd, as laptops got from work, a Dell 630 with integrated graphic, same cpu same ram plays 1080p without a problem.

By saying that, I think the sony SZ3 has a nvidia graphics, so, I really don't know what's going on, maybe a bios bug?

Well, to answer some questions, I have a T7500 that when playing 1080p averages around 30%, no other process takes up any significant amount of cpu cycles, since, like i said, i killed lots just to be sure.
I also have 4GB of RAM (running a 32bit OS though).

Maxsquared, yes it has, but also has a GMA950 (has the possibility to switch between the two for performance or long battery life), that also runs the 1080p content with no problems.

I assume it must be a driver problem, since i refuse to believe that it is a hardware issue and has no solution!!! I've tried installing regular nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, like mentioned in other threads on this forum, but with no luck. Everything goes well (use the modded .inf, and completely remove the driver by uninstalling, reboot, driver sweeper, reboot) but after the reboot that supposedly installs the driver, Windows just says that the driver isn't appropriate!

I'm really lost on this... please someone give us an idea!!! :( :( :( :(

Edit: My laptop is a 7664-1FG that packs a T7500, 4GB, 160GB 5400RPM, 14" Wide 1440x900, Nvidia Quadro NVS140M, the rest seems irrelevant for the subject at hand.

    Thanks for any help! :)

Has anyone solved this issue? I installed Vista Business on a 14.1" R61 with Nvidia 140m and the 2d animations are very slow... I tried the original Lenovo nvidia driver and the Vista update to 156.85. Should I be trying a newer driver and which custom INI do I use?

    Thanks

    Hello.

    I have R61 with T7100, nvs140 and 3gb ram. I have dual boot - vista x64 and XP.

Problem with aero performance is because powermizer is enabled by default (and you cant disable it just like that) in Vista so your card is running with '2d standard' mode almost all the time ( core clock is dropped to 170 and memory to 100MHz ).

I know only one solution. You need to download RivaTuner and overclock 2d standard mode OR force 3d performance mode.

Sorry for my bad english ^^

Thanks so much! I was so annoyed by this issue. Downloading RivaTuner now.

go to laptopvideo2go and get the vista driver 167.62 and their .inf associated with that download. all you have to do is unzip the driver and copy over the .inf replacing the original. this driver i found to give the highest 3dmark score over any of the dozen drivers i tried. start there. Rivatuner is great but you could also configure the the graphics using the nvidia control panel. this is the best scenario i found. good luck.

    jbarquinha,
if you have the password manager plugin on in firefox, disable it. after this mine never crashed again.
