I have a T61p with finger printer reader. However, every time i boot up or recover from hib, it takes about 30 secs for the comp to recog it. Is there anyway for it to be recog faster when i hit the log in screen?

Did you install the registry hot fix for this, it helped me dramatically. I maybe see about a second and a half delay from the screen coming up after standby.

i have this same issue...takes around 15 seconds from coming from sleep for the fingerprint to work...in the meantime it says please connect FP reader....can you please provide a link for this hot fix? Thanks

Actually this one too, I believe the fingerprint reader is actually a USB device:

Thanks. The fingerprint reader patch didn't help, but the USB one did.

Yeah mine is slow as balls after resuming from sleep.

That's very odd. On my X61 it recognizes it within 1-2 seconds regardless of whether I am resuming from sleep, hibernation or just cold boot. It might be worth a try to install the latest version of the fingerprint reader software. -
mine takes around 5 seconds

I thought the FP reader was useful when I bought the machine, but I soon realize I type faster that the reader is, hence I didn't use it under Windows.
Under OS X, the thinkpad reader works faster than under Windows! -
I have an X61s running Vista 64-bit and it's always been slow upon resume (from standby/sleep)... about 5-10 seconds at least. I mostly use standby and almost never shutdown. Eventually, after a few standby/resume cycles, the fingerprint reader is no long recognized at all. At the log-in screen, Windows simply says: "Please connect fingerprint scanner". At that point, I have to resort to typing in my password, which defeats the whole purpose of the fingerprint reader.
