I'm ready to toss it out the window. Web pages load slowly, delay when I scroll pages, sometimes even freezes. It's actually painful. Sometimes I just leave the room and come back.
ThinkPad T30 - 2 years old.
40GB HD, 28 available
1GB RAM
XP Pro, SP2
Pentium 4M
1.6ghz
Broadband AOL connection using Linksys cable modem with Ethernet
I've defragged, checked disk, disabled unneeded services, pared down startup menu, added PC Booster, Adaware, Spybot, Virus Scan, Mem Turbo, BigFix, Tweak (from PowerToys).
I've read elsewhere people saying the ThinkPad is slow. So, is it my ThinkPad, or is there something else I can do?
Thanks, Liz

well, the AOL browser is pretty slow compared to mozilla firefox, so you might want to check that out. www.mozilla.com

PS.
get rid of PC booster, mem turbo and Big fix. None of those utilites that say they are speeding up your system yet run in the background are hurting more than they help. If they just tweek a registry value, but don't run in memory they can help. I would also set your virus scan to manual and just scan your drive once a week. Have it set to only scan email, other wise all the data in and out of your PC is being scanned and that takes time and slows everything down. A good indicator t tell if you have too much running in the background is to count the icons to the left of the clock in your taskbar, if there is more than 5-6 then see if they are programs that really need to be running all the time.

Hi iscreamliz,
I doubt it's your notebook. The problem is most likely your broadband connection as AOL is the worst, especially if you have any AOL programs running in memory as well or the AOL browser. Try using internet explorer 6 or firefox and see if things speed up. If they don't, go to www.dslreports.com and run speed check and also find a utility there to check for packet loss as well.

Thanks, Andrew and Jack.
I tried Firefox a while ago and couldn't find where I wanted to go in 10 minutes, so I gave up. Guess I'll try again.
