Better things are always around the corner. You will always be mad if youre a perfectionist for the best and the latest, but wish not to spend every week to get the best and the latest.

The way i see it is, I upgrade my hardware every few years. I am benefiting from not buying every year. The fact I make a purchase @ whatever point I choose, is a gain for me already because its better than my last purchase, and I won for the reason I didnt have to order something progressively better every year.

1 question do u need a newer notebook ? since u have your own rite now
i know there is T400s but still i got the T400 as my notebook not the T400s
    i choose T400 over T400s because i think i need the T400 over the T400s
    that's why i pick it :D

T400 and T400s just from reviews seem like completely different computers. I for one would not trade the current "vanilla" T400 for the newer one. The discrete graphics card and ability to use 2x 2.5" hard drives is a bit more important to me than having a slightly thinner machine.

Now if they put eSATA port on the regular T400 I would have a perfect machine for what I use it for.

i just ordered the t400 friday and im getting it wednesday. how do you think i feel?

DAMN GOOD. I used one t400(borrowed from a friend) and i have no complaints.

Whats the diff between these two? the esata ports and stuff which i dont use and the t400 is like a pound heavier? i think i can live with that. lol.

i bought my t400 with graphics card but no ssd hard drive for 720$ where as the t400s is 1600 to start out with? Would you pay 1600 for a thinner laptop with a ssd drive? lol........i wouldnt, haha.

I got a T400 a few weeks ago. To the honest if I purchased a thinkpad now I might have chosen the T400s. I don't like that it has no discrete graphics. Other than that the crappy battery life or the 1.8 inch HDD doesnt bother me at all.

I ordered my T400 on 6/17 knowing full well the T400s was around the corner. Am I upset? No, because the T400s is significantly more expensive and over my budget compared to the T400.

I agree with the above, the T400s would've been out of my budget.

And I like using 2.5" hdds.

the T400s explains why there are no LED WXGA+ screens to be had on the regular T400. That is reason alone to hate the T400s IMO :D

Yes, they very much seem to be. I've had my T400 since August 09 and have no regrets whatsoever.

Like you, I don't see where the one pound weight savings and fraction of an inch thickness savings is worth trading for the higher price, limitations of 1.8" primary HDD, and lack of hybrid graphics.

I haven't had a need for an eSATA port yet; I just use the Ultrabay SATA Hard Drive adapter. I figure if one day I truly need an eSATA port I'll just buy one of the many inexpensive Expresscard eSATA adapters.

Seconded. The T400 is ideal for me; the T400s is not.

T400 has longer battery life when configured similarly. T400 is cheaper. T400 has the discrete graphics option (as you mentioned). The only advantage I see to the T400s is people who want their notebook to be thinner than necessary, and people who want light at all costs, including the cost of power and features.

My T400 arrived today, and I'm not sorry at all.

    The T400s is much more expensive...if I wanted a smaller laptop I would've gotten an X200 for cheaper than a T400s.

mad because a better machine came out a few weeks later? You clearly haven't been in the computer game for long :D

But as others have said, fret not. The T400s is a totally different beast. If I wanted a high-end thin and light machine I'd buy the X301. I don't see the point of the T400s. I buy a T400-sized machine because I want a compact desktop replacement with as few compromises as possible, not an overpriced wannabe MacBook.

Everybody have their own reasoning for liking or disliking this machine, but there is a very clear point about it. X301 is NOT a high-end machine, for starters processor doesn't even compare. T400s is a true lightweight desktop replacement for those who doesn't play video games and willing to pay premium for extra bells'n'whistles. 1.8" hdd is a drawback but it’s fixable with ultrabay caddy which just adds to "premium price". That's all.

The term high end is debatable. The x30x series has a lot more form than pure function. With the t400s out I don't see much drive to go with the x30x series though, aside from sheer weight/features. The t400s is pretty darn light for a 14inch!

i agree. The x300 is simply not powerful enough for most 'normal +plus" applications above your web browsing and word processing requirements, albeit being the sexiest thinkpad there is out there

The T400s is TRUELY a lightweight replacement for those that require the balance of having something thin and lightweight while not sacrificing too much on the performance. the same is they dont have dedicated graphics.

The low voltage processor in the X301 does not impress, how ever the SP9600 in T400s really surprised me on how well it compared to the other non low-voltage CPU:s in the review.

That sounds like a pretty good theory. Hopefully it still will come back on the T400 for those who want it.
