I ordered this laptop from Lenovo, I selected the T61 option and it still tells me it's a T61, but it seems to have the same display and graphics card options as the T61P

So which is it really? I asked Lenovo what the difference was between T61 and T61P and they weren't sure.

    I paid $1853

Based on this, it looks like they might have "forgot" to include the fingerprint reader which I ordered... Not sure though, I guess we'll see when it comes. Also I don't know which of those part numbers corresponds to the CPU, I wanted to make sure they sent me a T7800 CPU, which I ordered.

    What do you guys think?

Hahaha sorry guys, how could I have missed that fingerprint reader? Thanks.

As for the CPU, no, the T7800 is a new CPU that Intel just released this month (September) of 2007. It is 2.6 ghz, 800 mhz FSB, with 4mb of L2 cache. So I guess it's just like the T7700 only a bit faster.

I wonder why my parts lookup doesn't show the CPU, is that normal?

I know they didn't ship me a laptop without a CPU in it lol...

I've seen this happen before, but I'm not sure of what the outcome was. I have a felling you'll be fine.

The only thing that distinguishes the T61 vs T61p is the video card as far as I know.

I wonder if the CPU is too new and they don't have the FRU numbers in the system?

It did just come out this month after all

I guess we'll see what happens. If they send the wrong CPU they will have to send the right one. Fortunately I do have another laptop to use while I'm waiting.

I don't know what you mean, but the "NO" means not serviceable. It was a column on the webpage.

I think this is what indicates P vs non-P:

    T61(DAVINCI3/CORONADO3 DISCRETE MODEL) :p

I don't have the NVIDIA 570M broken out on my service parts list either, perhaps its part of the backplane and not a separate FRU/ASM#.

Did you ever figure out if this is a p model or not. Does it have the 140 video card or the higher end model? I just ordered a T61 with the same specs from the outlet for $1076 and just wondered what I was getting.

    Thanks

I did figure it out, now that I have it, it actually says "T61p" right on the sticker.

I have the higher end card, the Quadro FX 570M with 256 megs of GDDR3.

You got one from the outlet for $1076? Are you SURE it has the same specs? The T7800 CPU just came out in September, that seems like a REALLY low price if you got the exact same specs I did... If so, then good job you got a sweet deal!

I think the type of card should be indicated under "SYSTEM PLANAR; FRU PLANAR CARD ASM NVIDI". If it says INTE instead of NVIDIits integrated. Maybe someone who has 14.1" and 570m and/or 140M can post their FRU#'s.

    This is pure speculation but
    on the 14." I think 42W7650 = 570M (T61p), 42W7649 = 140M (T61).
    On 15.4, 42W7653=570M (T61p), 42W7652=140M (T61).

Again I'm only speculating. Hopefully somone can post their FRUs and we might get something.

    This is what I got:

    T7300, 2gig ram, 15.4" screen wsxgva+.

I don't know about the video card but the parts entry says:

42X6803 42W7652 system Planar; FRU Planar Card ASM NVIDI Yes

    It also has:

42W3815 42W7652 system Planar; FRU Planar Card ASM NVIDI Yes

I don't know why there are two listing for this.

    It also says:

    42X3558 000000 T61(DAVINCI3/CORONADO3 DISCRETE MODEL) :p NO

I asked the rep if he knew what type of graphics card it had but he couldn't find the info.

I guess I'll be happy with the 140 for what I paid for it.

    Thanks.

Well I still think it's a sweet deal!

You won't even notice the difference between the 140 and the 570 unless you play really recent games.

I bet you will like it, Thinkpads are so nice!
