So my daughter's $#*&ing cats knocked my Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 off the table and it landed perfectly so that it cracked the power connector plug edge and now it's time to replace it.

What are my requirements? Simple. The Y580 was perfect for what I wanted, with the exception of wishing it was a ThinkPad, but that's simply too much $$$.

    Here's my configuration now:
    Lenovo IdeaPad Y580
    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (x64) Build 7601
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Intel HM76 (Panther Point)
Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel HD Graphics 4000
    2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M
    8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMM
240GB mSATA SSD MKNSSDAT240GB-DX (for OS and apps)
    1TB Seagate ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB (for data)
    1920x1080 screen

If possible, I have no issues removing components from this system (i.e. RAM modules, hard drive, SSD, BluRay drive, etc) if they would be compatible with the new system. In fact, ideally, I would configure the cheapest possible Y580 and then just replace all the stuff with the components from my Y580 (Except of course for the power connection part) however it seems that isn't going to be an option

    so would components from my 580 be compatible/replaceable with a Y50 or a Y510?

    For a Y510p:

Screen is compatible, your exact panel is listed in the hardware maintenance manual. (So you can get a cheaper Y510p with the 1366 res and replace the screen yourself.)
Y510p takes DDR3L RAM, if the Y580 takes standard DDR3 RAM, then its not compatible.
    mSata not compatible.
    HDD obviously compatible.
