The current specials at Lenovo are the free shipping (yay!) and free 512mb RAM or discounted 1.0gb of RAM, correct?

Now, forgive my naiivete, but if I select the 512mb offer (which, when customizing the computer, is the first thing on the list on the webpage), that is RAM that the computer will be installed with, right? Not an additional stick that is shipped with it?

Meaning, if I select that special offer, and then at the RAM portion of customizing the computer, I stick with the default of 512mb, the computer that will arrive at my house will have 1024MB of RAM already installed, correct?

I want a gig of ram, so I just want to clear this up. Thanks!

If the drop down box says you are selecting 512mb, then that is what you are getting. If its a 1 gig, then that is what you pay for.

There is a slight issue about how many slots your ram takes up, which might be what is confusing you. If the menu says 2x512, then it means both slots are occupied with 512mb sticks each, and you are getting a total of 1 gig. Most likely, if you are getting 512 total (I don't reccomend it) then it will be 1x512, but if its a discount notebook, possibly 2x256!! (avoid that!)

The point here is that if both slots are occupied, there isnt any space for upgrades. You will have to yank one out for an upgrade....

    No it's not that exactly...

For reference, I'm customizing a Z61t (btw, do you know if that will take forever to ship? As in, more than a month?)

The model is 9440, and the standard is "512 MB included in base system." At the top of the screen, in a totally different heading, is "Special offers." There, I chose "Free 512MB PC5300 DDR2 SDRAM Memory."

So what I'm wondering is, since I want a gig of ram or so, that seems ideal. I just don't know if I'll be getting:

    A - z61t with 512mb of ram, and a stick of more 512mb ram
    B - A z61t with 1024mb of ram

I don't see anywhere on the page as to how the z61t base system is configured. I don't intend to take it apart and add ram in the future, though it may happen...I'll just deal with that then. What confuses me is, another option in the "Special Offers" section is "Discounted 1GB Additional Memory, Customer Installed [add $99.00]." This leads me to believe that the 512mb option will already be inside the system and good to go, giving me 1024mb of ram from the start. (option B, from what I typed earlier).

I was wondering what the 512mb choice really did...if it's a free "upgrade" to 512 (from lesser models) or if it's an additional 512mb of ram to whatever you select, and if so, if its installed or just sent along.

I think the free memory is user-installed; that means, you the user has to do it. I am
not sure about how the slots are configured.
    But memory is cheap anyway.

I actually have the same question - I am getting 1 GB but am not sure exactly what they mean by 1GB Customer Installed and just 1GB ram. They have two choices (same price) which read as follows:

Discounted 1GB Additional Memory, Customer Installed [add $99.00]
    Discounted 1GB PC5300 DDR2 SDRAM Memory [add $99.00]

Since they are both the same price I want to pick the one that has it already installed in the system as I've never opened up a laptop before. I've installed ram on a desktop but I would rather not mess anything up with a brand new laptop...

Customer Installed I had taken to mean a separate stick but on second thought, what if it means installed for the customer?
