The WiFi card is bios locked? You have got to be freaking kidding me....

Anyone know a way around this?

I was trying to switch out the 2200N for the 2230N.
I bought this laptop for 800$ and felt like I got a Huge bargain, each day passes and it's starting to earn it's 800$ price tag and just a regular sale :(.

    Thanks for any reply!

Is there a big difference between the 2 cards?

eventually the bios will be unlocked, just like the y570 was.

I believe that this comes with Bluetooth 4.0 and users have been saying that connection is better. I find the 2200N very mediocre in terms of range and connection. Kinda reminds me of the Crap Wifi I had in the m14x R1 :p...actually it might be the same ! :S

2200 shouldn't be bad. It's just that the antenna terminates down low where the screen hinge is, unlike other laptops that have their antennas up near the webcam

Yea I read the specs list and the only difference is the Bluetoooth 4.0 but otherwise it seems like it has the same range. Did you uninstall Mcafee? I heard a lot of wireless problems have been linked to the preloaded Mcafee software that comes with the 580.

If you're getting very poor results with the 2200, you'll get nearly identical results with the 2300, so personally I wouldn't bother. If you really want to do the replacement, get a Lenovo-whitelisted card off of eBay or another site, and that will work perfectly fine in the Y580.
