Perhaps the ones who got it couldn't resist the special (ridiculously low) pricing that was out earlier this week. :D

....or perhaps it's as simple as a preference for standard screen.

Widescreen really does not have any inherent benefits other than for movie watching. I do not get why anyone thinks widescreen is better than standard format instead of just different. OEMs push wide because its cheaper to (less glass) to make a widescreen LCD compared to a standard format LCD of the same measurement.

because the SXGA+ has more pixel resolution than the WSXGA,
web sites are viewed vertically, not horizontally
    these pics , http://bbs.nbuser.com/discuz/thread-177720-1-1.html
    its uncommon
    larger battery (9-cell)
    i dislike widescreen

and.... it just looks more "normal" to me.

For me, it was because the WXGA+ 14.1" widescreen wasn't readily available. You had to go a weird looking web page to order it and then the ESD was sometime in October!

The WXGA resolution was too low for me on a 14.1" widescreen and XGA on a 14.1" non-WS was definitely way too low. I kinda wish there were 14.1" in 1280x1024 or 1280x960 or 1344x1008.

because wide screen offers me nothing, and I have no problems with a standard size screen.

With wide screen you have to read a document/article online/offline moving your eyeballs from FAR left to FAR right.

I only have a couple of "normal" screens now. After I got a PowerMac with a 15 inch cinema screen, I was hooked. They are cheaper to produce and in higher demand, so the price should be lower. Right now I have my browser in the center of the screen, in normal proportions, and I can see some desktop icons on the left (to launch more programs) and my Vista sidebar on the right (with my news feeds, clock (telling me I am late), Weather, etc.) It's a personal preference, and it does take some getting used to.

FWIW, and I mentioned this in another post, my 14inch 4x3 T60p and my 15.4inch T61p side by side are exactly the same height. There was no way I was going to consider a 14inch widescreen and lose the vertical screen height. I'm very happy with my choice on this machine, the T61p 15.4 WUXGA rocks!

Because I'll be using the web, reading documents, writing papers, and writing code with it. The vertical screen height is definitely a plus when doing those tasks. Also, SXGA+ on a 14.1" screen looks great, and WXGA+ wasn't available.
