So, I guess I go back to Lenovo.

After weeks of soul searching (yeah, right), I decided to go with Ideapad Y500 and ordered it last week. It was equipped with 3rd gen Intel CPU and 750m. I knew Lenovo USA had the updated 510p model but Lenovo Canada didn't have that model and figured the difference was minimal between the CPUs.

But yesterday, I noticed Lenovo Canada website was updated with the new 510p. Since my order was not yet shipped, I called to cancel. I am not sure the order was cancelled because the rep sounded clearly reluctant to cancel and told me lazily, "The order has been cancelled, but the order may still be shipped. Just call us back for return label if the order does get shipped."

While not pleased with the tone of the answer, I couldn't complain and placed another order for the new 510p. I did consider 410p but this unit is to be my desktop replacement unit and I felt 14 inch might be too small to be used long term on my desk.

I have a feeling that I may end up with 500 and 510p.

So, I guess I go back to Lenovo. I had an okay experience with Lenovo Ideapad y400 few years back. I chose Lenovo over Clevo for few reasons. I did find that Clevo had superior flexibility with being able to have 4 drives (3 HDDs, and 1 msata). While I do game, my games I play are mostly Crusader kings, Football manager 2013, that sort of games which are less GPU demanding. Instead, I need lots of storage due to my profession and the need to have backup and backup of backups. A single 750m would be more than enough.

My minimum requirement for storage was 1 msata for OS and 2 HDDs in 15 inch + form. And with that requirement, I filtered out only few choices.

Ultimately, the aesthetics made me choose Lenovo over Clevo once storage requirement was met. Having used Clevo laptop before (In fact, my current laptop is Clevo P151HM1), I've always wanted a better style laptop.

The worst time awaits me: the waiting game.

Now, having written all above crap, I gotta ask. Where can I find the ultrabay for an additional HDD for 510p model? I cannot find that thing any where.

Never. I've never liked Alienware style. I know it's subjective, but Alienware laptop style is not for me. Too flashy also.

Had you asked lenovo? If lenovo provide the feature, they should sell the tools, right?

For the shipped Y500, just make sure not to refuse delivery. Accept the box, don't open it, and call Lenovo for an RMA (and tell them you've gotten it canceled earlier, and have already ordered a Y510p). They shouldn't give you any additional problems for that.

Hm, I just found out that y510p does not use msata format... That changes pretty much everything. Maybe, I should just go with Clevo.
