As I start considering picking up a second, ultraportable laptop and using the T60 I ordered as a desktop replacement at home, I'm leaning more towards a Flexview. Unfortunately I already ordered from Lenovo, but they're estimating a ship date of the 14th. Do you think I'd have any problems if I called and cancelled my order tomorrow? I just ordered Saturday night.
I'm tentatively looking at the 2007-73U, but it only comes with a 3 year warranty. I'd like to have accidental damage protection, do you think I would be able to upgrade that for less than an absurd amount when I call Lenovo to activate the warranty?
What would be perfect is a 15" SXGA+, T2400, 512MB memory, 40 or 60GB hard drive, x1400 graphics, fingerprint reader, and bluetooth. This has all that but also a T2500, 1GB memory, and a 100GB hard drive; I'd rather upgrade the memory and hard drive aftermarket. Does anyone (SkiBunny) know of anything a little closer?
-
No I do not think it will be a problem to cancel. ThinkPad warranties are unlike others. You do not need to activate it. You can certainly upgrade it after. Whether it is an obscene amount or not you will have to answer. I don't think you are going to get one with a lower end CPU and the x1400, but feel free to look in the tabook.

I've read other posts from people that cancelled and they didn't seem to have any problems. On rare occassions it was too late to stop the process so they just had to return the laptop.
By the way, what is the pricing you are getting for the 2007-73U?
I'm getting ready to order the 2007-9EU which I found on their sale section for $2369 which seems pretty reasonable for the specs. I didn't see the 73U? You would think a person could just enter 20079eu in the search and find it... -
$2007 shipped from SuperWarehouse, don't go and buy the last one
Thanks ZaZ, I forgot about the tabook. -
Ahhh... thanks. I checked them out as well. For me, I wanted a pretty powerful T60 and the one on sale with Flexview at Lenovo is perfect and now I feel even better about the price.
I found a similar one 200793U (same as the one I'm ordering but is slower at 2.16 ghz instead of 2.33 ghz). The price at Super Warehouse is $2695.
I need to stop obsessing and just order the darn thing but I do feel like I'm getting a good deal at $2369. -
Hrm... if I go with the 2007-76U I get a 7200 RPM hard drive, plus I actually get the fingerprint reader (SuperWarehouse lide on the 2007-73U. So unless I get a Fujitsu or Samsung hard drive I have to replace, all I have to do is get a gig of memory and an ultrabay battery. So it's about $200 plus the warranty upgrade which I don't see being less that $150, for an IPS screen and 170 mhz on the processor. That's kind of tough to justify, but I'll **** well try!
I guess I'll call tomorrow and see if Lenovo will give me a deal with the labor day sale. Did I gather correctly that they sell the preconfigured directly if you call? -
I assumed I could call and order. I was also going to see about their Visa/Mastercard discount. Here is a link to the discounts:
http://www.laptoplogic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2101
I'm going to call and order the pre-config and then ask for my "Mastercard" discount. If they don't allow it, I will ask if their is a better price. We'll see what happens. The sale price is pretty good as it is. -
errr... maybe I'm blind, but where are you finding preconfig prices on Lenovo's website?
edit: I think I found it, but they hardly have any options there. Certainly not the 2007-76U. The 9EU does look tempting for that price. -
Looks like you found it. The selection is definitely sparse. The 9eu is the only flexview model. But the price is great. I'm a little bit torn as I didn't really want a T60p. The regular T60 with the 15" flexview has a slightly lower resolution (1400 pixels wide) compared to the T60p of 1600 pixels. I'm just afraid that the T60p will be a bit too small. Silly reason but I am coming from a 14" with 1024x768. I know I can do things like increase font size, dpi, etc. but it is just not quite the same as native resolution at default settings. The 1400 pixels sounds perfect. But when I configure the same specs they are almost the same price. With the 9EU I also get the better graphics card. Tough decision. I'm leaning towards the 9EU just because it seems like such a great deal. The sale ends on 9/11 so I have a few days to decide...

I bit the bullet and went with the UXGA. A $1000 discount was just too much to pass up. I'm still pretty young with good eyesight and will try some things with the font size and dpi, etc. I'm sure like anything... I'll adjust and get used to it. I'm also curious what the screen will look like if I run it at SXGA or something. The regular T60 was about the same price as this T60p on sale when configured comparably. The only difference being the graphics card and screen resolution as far as I can tell. I also opted for upgrading Ram from 1gb to 2gb. It was only $153 which is only slightly more than buying it from somewhere else and I read some horror stories about upgrading RAM on the new Thinkpad designs which required removing the palmrest. Anyway, this should definitely tide me over for a couple of years.
I do a lot of photo work and web development so having the extra resolution to have two windows open side by side or all those hovering Photoshop toolbars open will be nice. Hopefully I made the right choice. -
I called Lenovo today and cancelled my order, there weren't any problems. I don't remember the exact price, but the 2007-76U is over $2300 with the best deal he could give me, as it's not included in the labor day sale. I'm pretty sure he was going to quote me higher at first, but I slipped up and said something that made him immediately put me on hold and get a better price. I would have liked to know how much they knocked off.
Too bad I won't be able to afford the 9EU which you got before the sale is over, but I too think I'll prefer the SXGA+. The video card would have been nice, though, and I am used to 1600x1200 on my desktop.
The warranty upgrade is $169, which is $20 more than the delta between the 3 year depot and 3 year accidental damage depot warranties in the built to order section. I can live with that. What concerns me is that the rep told me that you only have 30 days to upgrade the warranty from the time Lenovo shipped it, which means if the notebook has been sitting in a Super Warehouse, err... warehouse for over a month I'm technically out of luck. But I figure I can probably get past that one if the need arises.
I'm still a little hesitant to order from Super Warehouse, but I think the price is worth it, over $200 cheaper than direct, plus free shipping.
I asked about a visa discount and the rep told me that's for visa employees, he's never heard of a discount for visa or mastercard (was it mastercard?) holders. -
I have no idea on the Visa Mastercard thing. I assumed it was for holders. I just ordered online and all went well. I found the links on sites discussing discounts. Most of the references seemed to mention it was for cardholders.
Visa Discount:
http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa
Mastercard Discount:
http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/mastercard
These take you to the appropriate pages (they look the same and have the same products and discounts)
The Super Warehouse deal sounds pretty good too especially if it is a good fit for what you are looking for. -
And I just found it at Page Computers for $2,047 shipped two day!
It looks like it's for small business visa holders, mine is just a personal card. Still, it's odd that he'd never heard of it. Of course, he had my visa number from my cancelled order, so maybe his system notified him that I wasn't eligible.
So, uhhh... I'm having second thoughts
