The LED screen and the LV processor for extra battery life seems pretty attractive! I will be buying a 4-cell battery to save weight, so if the x200s beats the x200 and is able to provide a decent 4-5 hours on the 4-cell battery I will be very happy. I'm also curious about the screen quality and brightness of the LED screen... I find the only downside will be the slightly lower performance, but if they offer the SL9400 (1866Mhz, 6MB cache) that should be more than enough for my needs!

I will be waiting for the x200s to be reviewed before I make my decision between the 2 models.. Any idea if NBR will be getting a review unit soon? :)

Hey Kevin, thanks for the reply! Yes I have read the review of the x200, but I was curious about it's slimmer/lighter counterpart (x200s) that's supposedly coming out at the beginning of September :)

Well, NBR reviewed the x200 a month before it was released on lenovo.com. And I have been unable to find a "confirmed" release date for the x200s so I thought it might be worth it to ask..!

T400 is on its way to being reviewed even though it was released 9 days ago

I too am looking forward to more info about the X200s. I doubt the 4-cell battery will provide 5 hours of battery life. The X61s with 4-cell battery offered about 3 hours at max. If they can bump the X200s up to 4 hours on the 4-cell battery they will have accomplished a great feat IMO, especially considering the weight of the X200s is only 2.5lbs with the 4-cell battery.

With the recent announcement of the 2.2lb Dell E4200 I wonder if it will give the X200s a challenge. I am waiting to hear more about this little notebook that offers some nice features that the X200s does not: backlit keyboard, lower weight, eSATA, and 1394, to name a few. It looks like the E4200 will beat the X200s to market too! This is significant for us students....

I agree, the E4200 does look interesting! But I still think I would prefer the x200s:
-the E4200 will have the slower ULV processors, and I don't think I'd want to go any lower than the LV 1.86Ghz
-I'd rather have a trackpoint instead of a touchpad
-The Thinkpad will probably have much better build quality than the Dell... (my current laptop is an Inspiron and I'm not too impressed with the build quality)
-To me, a backlit keyboard is pretty useless because I don't have to look at my keyboard to type - plus, Thinkpads have a Thinklight anyway :p

I have personally used 1394 once or twice in my life, so that's no problem with me.. although eSATA would have been really nice!

And yes I'm a student too.. so the release date is indeed significant - that's why I posted this thread :D
