    Hi,

I am thinking of replacing the HDD in my T500 with a faster SSD. What is a good program for cloning the old HDD to the SSD? I don't want to reinstall everything, just a direct clone from one drive to the other so I can pop it in and use the system.

Something free would be best :D

    Thanks

You need to be careful when using Cloning software on a SSD, you may risk misaligning the partition thus reducing the performance of the SSD.

Should you wish to proceed using Halobox's suggestion of Acronis then this guide will help you on how to make sure your partition is aligned when using the software.

I just used the built-in Windows imaging. Worked great. Not so clean as a new install, but quick and easy. I did tweak a few things afterwards, but took 10 minutes. Lots of advice on that through google. Never had a problem in 18 months. Never wished I clean-installed... :)
