The MAC just was not me. A nice looking and great performing machine, but if I had to learn new ways of doing the same thing, it is a deal killer. Like delete button is the back button??? I am just too old for that kind of transition. I even had dual boot, but there was no way I could forget that it was, in its heart, a MAC.

So, I got a great deal on Ebay X1 i3, 4GB, BT, 320GB HD which will be immediately replaced with an Intel 160GB I have laying around :)

I would have preferred an i5, but it is not necessary.

I know, from reading here that it is not perfect. But I hope it will be perfect for me!

funny I did the same thing, but I had to learn windows. I like both OS equally though. I like the features of windows laptops better, more functional, but the design is better on macs I think.

Yes, I have much respect for the MAC as hardware. It is an amazing product. I just like Windows better. Mainly because I know it better. I hope to have the X1 for this weekend. I will put an Intel 160GB 320 series right into it.

There are some pretty smoking designs being released now by HP, Samsung, ASUS and even Acer. Lenovo has only shown it's consumer cards and is still keeping the real ThinkPads close to the vest. I'm sure the new X1 (whatever it's going to be called), will be killer. I'm pretty sure I'll buy one then stick it in the ring with my 15" Samsung Series 9.

Yes ... the new Lenovo notebooks are an interesting lot. Hoping for significant improvements in the X2 (or whatever it's called).

my friend's i3 X1 runs cooler then my i5 version of the X1. I think for this class of machine, the minor difference in these CPU isn't going to amount to much speed differences.

PS. I also notice that my friend's fan kicks in slightly less and runs about 3 to 5 degrees cooler then mine when watching HD movies.

The only thing I would caution about buying an I3 vs an I5 for use in the US, is that AES encryption is being widely adopted particularly in the Medical field due to the impact of the HIPA laws. I also encounter it quite a bit dealing with government information, such as GIS data.

Nice info.... the i3 can still do the encryption but albeit it will take a few cycle hits to do these encryption without the integrated CPU acceleration.

I was hoping it would run a bit cooler. I really do not need much power unless I want a desktop replacement, but this should easily hold me until the X2 :) The idiot sent it on a "slow boat from china" so I am really hoping to get it this week, sooner rather than later.

There should be a law against shipping something like a laptop parcel post. Sheesh!

Could not agree with you more. I bought my Acer 3820TG from Computeruniverse in Germany and they sent it to me here in the US via Deutschepost. It took nearly 3 weeks.

Certain specifications are not available in the US. I remember people were ordering a specific Timeline from Canada as it was not available in the US.

The 3820TG was never sold in the US and was first released in the EU months before it was released in Canada. I got my first one from Germany. It drowned in a worksite accident a couple of months later, but I was able to get its replacement from a canadian retailer. I think I had the first 3820TG in North America. If it had a better display and a better keyboard, I would seriously consider the S5. As it stands now, the X2 is likely to supass the Acer in both of these categories. I am really leaning Thinkpad for my next notebook.

To be honest, my 3820TG has performed flawlessly for the year and a half that I've owned it. I would buy another Acer if I liked it.

Well, my bad. It was sent Priority. But for some reason it took 4 or 5 days, not 2-3 as usual. But not 2-3 weeks that parcel post would be.

I love it! I love the keyboard even more than a traditional ThinkPad. However, what I would not do for an IPS screen. As with many lappys, the vertical angles really really suck.

I put a spare Intel 320 SSD in and it is a great machine. Much lighter than I imagined.

But if an X2 comes out with a decent screen, I will swap immediately.
