I'm strongly considering the T61p (T8300, 7200 RPM HD, 4GB RAM, WSXGA+) but had a few questions that hopefully some other T61p owners may be able to help with:
- Are Lenovo's return and support policies any good? I won't need help with setup/software troubleshooting, but if a part goes bad am I going to have to spend four hours on the phone just trying to convince them that I need it replaced?
- How loud/hot is the T61p? Reviews seem to indicate that it's pretty good, but since this will actually be in my lap most of the time I'd like it to not affect my ability to procreate.
- How good is the color quality of the WSXGA+ model? I'll be doing a bit of graphic design on it and it'd be nice if I didn't have to use an external monitor much. I've seen a few threads here that seem to indicate that the screen isn't that great.
- Old ThinkPads are built like tanks and seem to last for years. Has Lenovo maintained this level of build quality in recent models?
- Estimated ship time is 2-3 weeks. Based on some of the threads here I doubt it will take that long, but if for some reason I decide to cancel in that time will I be able to?
The other laptop I'm considering is a MacBook Pro, but since I'd be paying $500 more (minimum) and the build quality and resolution are substantially worse it just doesn't seem like the right choice considering that I'll be in VMware or Boot Camp 80% of the time. Plus, Apple laptops are built like toys compared to Lenovos, it seems.

15% restocking fee always always for returns. I had no problem getting my entire laptop replaced because of a defective screen.
Very quiet and very cool but no laptop should be on your lap not a good idea

MBP is overpriced and an inferior machine to the T61p -
I use my T61p on my lap all the time, never had any discomfort nor have I noticed any fan noise.
The Samsung screen has great colors, you just have to adjust the graphics card settings a bit. I cranked up the contrast and cut the brightness.
Based on my T61p, the build quality continues to be outstanding.
Hope you enjoy your T61p as much as I have. -
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

I have a few screenshots of the screen at the bottom of my review here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=253339
