Thinking about getting a larger 2.5 HDD for my T400. Just have a couple fo questions.

    1. Should I get a drive that has some sort of built in protection or not since T400 has Active protection on board?

    2. Some have mentioned that even with Ultrabay SATA II adapter I still need caddy to secure drive if I should put old drive there. What FRU number is this part and is eBay where I can find this and thanks?

    1) It doesn't matter. its probably cheaper to get it without protection and your t400 already has active protection.
    2) I think you just need the ultrabay adapter, but I dont have a t400 so I can't answer for sure.

Because I can't create new threads for some reason (even though the forum states "you may post new threads") I will bump this thread to ask my question.

    1. I would like to add 2nd harddrive for my T400, but I'm not sure what kind of ultrabay adapter should I get? The one for ultrabay II? If someone could kindly find me the part number for Lenovo I would appreciate it alot.

    2. See the original post's 2nd question.

I never used a hard drive caddy when I had the ultrabay with my T42. I never had a problem with it, but I suppose with enough force it could come loose. You can get a caddy from eBay for like $4, if you don't mind waiting for it ship form HK.

Unless you have a good reason, I'd recommend just replacing the internal hard drive, which would be cheaper than the Ultrabay option.

My 500GB Western Digital Scorpio ran me $80 two months ago, and has served me well. It also gave me a chance to go with a clean install (though I backed up my data first over my home network).

I want to have Intel X-25M 80GB in the original harddrive bay and then my 320 GB drive as a storage drive in ultrabay so I really need to use ultrabay option. Still no answer about the ultrabay II? Or is it ultrabay III?

It's an Ultrabay II for the T400, and it works perfectly in my T400, so all in all I now have a little under 1 TB in my laptop, great ;-)
