I received me new Dell Inspiron 1520 couple of days ago and I'm not thrilled with the overall build quality. The battery doesn't sit in the slot very tightly, the touchpad buttons feel very cheap and so do the media buttons ... and as I suspected I just hate that glossy screen! I mean the resolution is quite nice (1440) but the reflections are unacceptable.
Today I came across this promo: http://www.xpbargains.com/index.php/send_deal/72801
and I was like this:![]()
I always thought the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad series start at $900+ ... and here I've configured a nice laptop for less than $700 (T5470, 120GB, 512DDR & ordering more from newegg, webcam).
Where's the catch?
I mean that R61 will be more portable than my 1520, it has a matte screen of a 1440 resolution and I guess it's gonna be far more sturdier right? ThinkPads are known for their quality.
So, what can you guys tell me about this new R61? Is it worth it?
I design graphics (photoshop), browse the web, music & DVDs on a plane and some light gaming.

It's definitely worth it.
The catch though, is that you missed the 10% off coupon that expired yesterday. -
10% off this: http://www.xpbargains.com/index.php/send_deal/72801 ??

mother of all mercy!!
Now there's got to be a catch!!!
$585 for an R61 ... That's an Acer pricing ... I am aware that the specs are not the highest, but the price is just unbelivable. I think I'm going to get it right away ! -
order thru fatwallet and get fatcash. should be even cheaper.
-
I ended up ordering my R61 for $472.60 shipped. After Fat Cash total is $456.06. Got a stick of Crucial 1GB from Fry's for $24.99 after rebate, just need 1 more cheap 1GB stick and maybe an external HDD at some point in the future.

I also just ordered it .. but the thing is - I've configured it for something over $600. Then I've used that 10% off button and got a price of $585. Tax was $45. I came to a total of $631. I clicked the final "Order" button. And ....
I got a confirmation e-mail with a price of 696.57!!!! The 10% off doesn't seem to work for the order according to this e-mail!
I just wrote them this e-mail:
Hello,
My name is ............. and I've placed an order on a R61 laptop computer on your website. When I configured the computer the price went over $600. Then I saw a button saying that my order is good to use a 10% off offer. When I clicked that the price went down by 10%. After adding tax my total was $631 and that's the price I've agreed on when clicking the last "order" button on your website. Now I've received a confirmation e-mail from Lenovo saying that my credit card will be charged $696.57. I guess the 10% auto-off did not work or the confirmation e-mail is just missleading.
Can you please straighten up this matter.
Regards,
.........."
Hmmm .... don't like this at all ........ -

Cancel your order immediately and redo the order and save it as a quote. Also take a screenshot to prove that what you saw is indeed the price you should be billed for. Chances are they will bill your card for the whole amount.

they're closed on Sunday :/ Can't cancel my order now ... or maybe there's a way to do it online but I'm too blind to see it?
I hope this promo won't end tommorow and I won't be able to get that R61 for this price.
I checked their website and I still can configure the R61 for $585 before tax (631 with tax) with that 10% coupon. -
I'm canceling my Dell Vostro order Monday.
This is a much better laptop for my needs.
I had ordered the Vostro 1500 just to get Win XP.
Now I got my 14" and XP Pro for less money.
I hope this is a better laptop? -
You can still get the R61 for cheap with the AMEX deal, see this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=147386
This morning I configured one for $474 (just always pick the cheapest options as you navigate through the order configuration.) I don't this deal will go away for a while. -
Not sure about the 10% coupon, but the special pricing lasts till July 30 (tomorrow).
Some comments on the R61?
