I got my new T61 for nearly 2 months, here is the information of my T61: intel duo core 1.6 ghz, 3000 mb of ram, 358 mb of video card.It originally comes with XP pro but I upgraded it to vista home premium. The issues are:
1, When ever I open task manager, it shows that my CPU usage is always near 100%, I don't know why. I think the problem can come from some undetected software and probably is virus or spy ware. I am now using AVG 8 and it doesn't detect any virus or harmful software.
2, I like watching movie online, my internet connection is very good but I have never been able to watch movie smoothly, it is always choppy and it bothers me a lot.
If anyone have solutions or advices, please tell me. Thank you so much for your help and have good day.

Since you installed Vista Home Premium, have you installed any of the ThinkVantage applications?

hey buddy how are you doing?

well you must be really frustrating. but the problem with watching online movies and shows it is really hard to fix that problem. reason being it just depends on how fast your internet service is and also how fast the site will let you stream. i have been using a thinkpad for like 9months and i just love the experience.

and the other problem can be solved by the chipset driver if you dont you didnt already installed it. so you know something my friend just install systemupdate and than it will fix all the problems.

if you ever want to really see what your processor is doing in detail download process explorer...it's a great program. you can pinpoint an programs that are resource hogs. vista has a nice basic program under computer management called reliability and performance monitor that also lets you take a look inside your cpu.

    Hi IBMt41,
I want to recommend an alternative program that I found when I had to remove a trojan from my girlfriend's computer (took me a whole weekend to solve, but with this finally worked fine!):
It is called "security task manager" and works similar to windows' task manager, but it seems to list really everything that is currently running on a given system, gives you recommendations as to which processes are more suspicious than others and lets you kill them with one mouseklick. It is really quite easy to use (even I was able to ;o)) - and it's free!.
The link to the download site and an article describing what to do is here:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,129094-page,2-c,troubleshooting/article.html

Before you use it, you chould probably back up your system, e.g. using Acronis True Image - just in case.

    Good luck!

I used to get a problem like that sometimes on my old laptop. I never figured out exactly what it was, but my fix that worked was to look in task manager :processes and identify what process is getting all cpu attention. There was ussally one process that was up there at 70-80 range. Then, I would push the end process for that task. Not a long term solution but it did work every time and got me through the day.

thx u guys for your helps. After downloading Security task manager, the program showed that in my laptop, there is a software name: GrooveShell Extension Modules which is potentially dangerous according to Security task manager rates. I don't know if my T61 becomes slow like this because of this program or not. If yes, can you guy tell me how to solve.
Thank you very much and have a good day

First I would suggest doing what rob65789 said. Do it for a couple of sessions and if you notice cpu usage going down and also nothing going wrong, then you can try to disable it. Uninstall it, or if you can't, back the program up into a zip folder, delete the original, find it in the registry, backup then delete the entries with that program. You should be cleaned of its effects, but if you find that you need it (FNPLicensingService is one program that behaves like a virus but is tied with Adobe Acrobat) you can restore the registry entries and unzip the program to its original location.

Does anyone know that we can upgrade the video card for T61 or not because right now my T61's video card is Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset family. Do you think that my video card is good enough to play some new game such as need for speed pro street or call of duty 4. If not, can you guys tell me what kind of video card I should upgrade.
    Thanks !

Unfortunately, you can't upgrade the video card of the T61. It's permanent.

So do you think with that type of my video card, can I play any interesting games or not. When I check with dxdiag, it showed that my video card has 128 mb and the shared memory is 230 mb => totally, my laptop has 358 mb of video card. So do you think that with the games, the bit(like 32 bit, 64 bit or 128 bit) or the memory of the video card will decide we will be able to play the game or not?
    Thx

Your typing is incoherent to me. Could you please state more clearly what it is you want to know? Are you asking about the Quadro NVS 140M?

He/she is asking about the Intel X3100, which I've not used for gaming.

ibmt41, here is Chaz's thread on the card's capabilities: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=148045
