    Hi all,

I'm interested in buying the X220 but may also consider the tablet version. What I like about the tablet is that I could read document in a portrait format and actually use the PC in tablet mode on a couch. Other than that I don't necessarily require a tablet PC but these option are still nice. Another "good point" is that it's hard for me to find an IPS screen here in Switzerland for the regular non-tablet X220 as most student rebates consider non-IPS display. One thing is clear: I want IPS and the tablet comes with it as standard.

Now I have a few questions about the tablet as I don't know this

    - Is the tablet screen glossy? I'm talking about the Multitouch infinity glass version. At least is it more glossy than the non-tablet IPS screen?

    - Any one has compared the screen quality/brightness/color/contrast of IPS tablet vs IPS non-tablet? Is the IPS screen on the tablet grainy due to the digitizer?

    - Would you wait for the gorilla glass option (I'll use the tablet inside only)?

    - Does the tablet come with ThinkLight (the little light right next to the camera that allows to work in the darkness by illuminating the keyboard)? Do all X220 come with this option?

    - The tablet would come with 320Gb HDD + 80Gb mSata SDD. I don't need much space so is it a good idea to put all my files on the SDD (spinning down the HDD) and use the HDD only as a backup for my SDD (for backup files and system images)? Or would you use an external drive as backup?

    - Does Ubuntu Linux work with tablet mode (multitouch/pen)?

    - Battery life X220 vs X220t (with 6 cell battery)?

    - Beside price, why would you prefer the regular non-tablet X220 vs the X220t?

    Thanks for any input!

I don't know how many qualified opinions at this point you'll get on the X220t as few have them right now. You might want to check out TabletPCReview.com. Typically, with tablets the touch surface adds a layer of grain to the screen, though I have not seen the X220t. You may wish to get a look at some tablet to see if this effects you. I didn't bother me much on my X200t, but it can be more pronounced on multi-touch tablets as they have an extra touch layer.

I would also point out 768 is pretty narrow for reading documents in portrait mode, but perhaps your situation differs.

    Hi,

tzhanks for your replies! I've checked the links but it's still difficult to get an idea without a direct comparison. The direct comparison between multi-touch and non-multitouch IPS on the 200 serie is however obvious: the multitouch screen is dim... Clearly I want no compromise on screen quality. Tablet features are nice but they are a bit luxury for me. It's just these would be nice to have and also the tablet would be easier to purchase in my case (school rebate).

How would you compare the screen of your X200t with the one of your X220 non-tablet? Both are IPS right?
