I was trying to get wireless connection today with my T61. I pressed the blue ThinkVantage button to get the menu, but the menu wouldn't show up; instead, there's a frame of the menu that just flashed in a second then disappeared. Each time I pressed the blue button again, the same happened. Some time (maybe 20 minutes or longer) later, when I pressed the blue button again, the "menu" showed up and thank God stayed on screen, HOWEVER it's not the customized menu that should be there, and it missed quite a few item, including PowerOn Wireless Radio, Find Wireless Networks,.... ALTHOUGH if I click on "Customize" I clearly see these items checked (i.e. should be in the "Quick Link" on top of the ThinkVantage menu).

If I go to "Start" menu and choose "ThinkVantage Access Connection" from there, I get the screen with "ThinkVantage Access Connection" front page which just stays there forever, like it's dead or frozen.

What's more, there's no way to access wireless: no wireless network to choose, no way to look for wireless, or even "power on wireless radio" (as stated above). And after some long time when I have already abandoned the effort, a message box popped up saying something like this machine does not have wireless adapters installed, which is false, since I do have Thinkpad a/b/g/n.

So I opened system tool==> system info, to check for the network adapter. It is there. But there's something I'm not sure if relevant: it shows these words:

DHCP Lease Expires 4/20/2008 11:19 AM
DHCP Lease Obtained 4/19/2008 11:19 AM

The last time I used wireless connection was 4/17 (a month ago), and there was no problem with ThinkVantage menu or wireless.

What's wrong? I haven't done anything special on my laptop. Could there be a virus? What the heck is the "DHCP" lease expiration?

Your help will be most appreciated!! :D

    The expiration is normal.

Reinstall netframework 2.0, reinstall thinkvantage productivity center. also wifi card driver then access connection. try also to reinstall power manager driver and software including the hot key driver. Install in sequence. then run "update my system" using the thinkvantage button. also check if you have the latest bios.

Thank you. I'm downloading netframework 2.0 now. Any idea what caused the problem?

    Edit:
I was trying to download netframework 2.0, but it says can't continue because it's incompatible with the version already installed (I have netframework 1.1). Should I uninstall the 1.1?

I uninstalled the net framework 1.1 in order to install 2.0, but it still says incompatible with a previously installed one. I read from MS web site that I need to uninstall the net framework 2.0 service pack 1 (later version of the 2.0), then install 2.0. Should I uninstall the service pack 1? Will I be in trouble?

Also, now that I have uninstalled 1.1, will I be in trouble?

Sorry for so many idiot's questions--I'm totally clueless what these programs are for and whether I can be without any one of them. :(
