I'm using my X61s and just noticed a very thin, shining metal chip, about half inch long, could be visible from the bottom of the LCD frame, to the right of the word "Lenovo". Apparently it dropped down there from somewhere inside. It looks like a broken metal chip, though I'm not sure if it's really a broken or whole piece. I moved and shook the laptop and the chip got a little back inside.
Does anyone have idea what it might be?
Thanks.

can you take a photo of it?

Erik, unfortunately after I shook the machine the chip got back inside and can only be seen if one looks at it from a particular angle in very close range--it's just at the "entrance" to the LCD frame
(by "entrance" I mean the about 3/4" long caved-in part to the right of the word "Lenovo"). If it comes out again I'll take a pic. It is similar to a shining metal peeled off from somewhere.

On my old laptop (non Lenovo), once it got ~5 years old, the plastic that goes around the outside of the screen and covers the metal frame of the LCD "warped" and the double sticky tape does not hold it in place very well. I can see the shining metal when I look between the LCD and the black plastic. But it's not just a 1" piece as in your case, it is part of the whole frame. Could it be a foreign object?

It's about half inch actually (corrected the measure). The LCD and the plastic around it were recently replaced by Lenovo. So one possibility is they left some extra broken piece inside, another possibility is some good part got broken--but I would find the latter not so likely since I never did anything to the machine. How likely is it for the tech to leave something "foreign object" in there while replacing the LCD?
Something/chip fell loose from LCD?
