    What exactly do the "Sonic" and "RecordNow" programs do, on the ThinkPad R61? (came factory-installed, they are outlined in red in the attached images). If they do not do anyting useful, would like to reomve them, is this ok? (or will it cause codec problems?)
    I have Nero Burning Rom 6.6 installed & use that for CD/DVD writing. Have never used these programs for anything so far. As can be seen they occupy quite a bit of Hard Disk space.

    Also, is it ok to remove the 'Multimedia Center' (in blue square in 2nd pict.)?

    dunno what multimedia center is for..?!
    But u can remove Sonic since u already have Nero and might be more familiar with it....
    It does all the same things that Nero does....except dvd authoring and stuff....
