    Sony Z 2012 model

    3rd gen Intel Core i7-3612QM quad-core processor (2.10GHz / 3.10GHz with Turbo Boost)

    Awful, horrendous speakers, honestly!

Superb battery life/options with the sheet battery at $150 (fair price, though it's just over 1 pound heavy, but at least it's an option) for a 14-hour battery life.

SSD: 2 x 128gb in a RAID 0 configuration: potentially more of a problem than non-RAID, but then again...hard to tell how much of a "negative" this RAID 0 configuration is. There is no way out of getting this in a RAID 0 option.

    Lenovo X1 Carbon

Superb best of the best keyboard
Superb best of the best glass surfaced trackpad

VERY hot when stressed at center bottom, up to 113F/45C!
If not a problem in real life use (since we don't always stress our system to such intensity of calculations), it might still impace negatively longevity?

Rather good speakers! Surprise surprise. No big deal but at least not awful like the Z 2012 Sony

BOTH: superb top of industry build quality

Which one is a smarter buy, if we remove price out of the equation initially in thinking about this?

    Thanks in advance.

113 degrees while stressed to maximum doesn't sound too horrible, particularly for ultrabooks. The Vaio Z doesn't run cool either. If noise levels at high usage is a factor, I believe the Vaio Z can be quite noisy. The X1C seems to be pretty quiet, judging from reviews so far.

Also, please don't cross-post the same thread across multiple subforums; it's poor forum etiquette. I've left the one in the Lenovo subforum for now, but if you would prefer to put the thread either in Sony or in WNSIB, feel free to let me know.
